Spring Game to be at 6pm; Gentry to TE full-time, Khalid Hill at FB

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

At Harbaugh's signing earlier at MDen, he said the spring game would be played at 6pm on Friday, April 1st. I realize I already created a thread on the spring game being April 1 but the time was not announced yet and that is a pretty key detail for a Friday game.

EDIT: also appears he's having a presser now.

Khalid Hill is going to work at fullback. Zach Gentry will stay at TE

Harbaugh said Mason Cole will get work at center right away when spring starts. Peppers is full go.

Harbaugh says all the early enrollees are doing well. He singled out Carlo Kemp: 'He looks like he's been here for years.'

Back to the actual player news - makes me bearish on Kugler contributing in his time at UM.  Damn.

It will be curious to see if Gentry sticks around long term as well.  I know he was sort of a project at QB but he was a guy who seemed to really want to play it.

Most creative use of the word petulant.

Somewhat excited to see a thread about the Spring Game, I became increasinly petulant when I realized that, contrary to my expectations, thoughts on Gentry, Hill, et.al., and the position moves would lead us into further discussion in regard to the game, with topics such as who we are most excited to see, expectations of performance, oh let's just say the many things that could have been discussed that actually were pertinent to the upcoming season.

Instead, I opened the thread to discover, and this is an estimation, perhaps 7 posts dedicated to individual reaction to position moves. Not being a member of  "The Importance of attending the Spring Game" club, I was amazed at the large number of fans sharing similar views such an irresponsible action by Coach Harbaugh, and the obvious delusional level of importance he now considers his role to be, clearly a result of a successful first season.  This has been  exacerbated by an almost unprecedemted amount of publicity associated with recent decisions on his part. Instead of successfully interpreting the obvious intent of this recent publicity as a magnanimous gesture on the part of other conferences, realizing his relative level of inexperience as head coach at one of the inarguable members of the truly historically "elite" programs of their profession, based on nothing other than altruistic intentions, the one common bond shared by all of those occupying a similarly prestiguous position. Because membership of this "elite" club is small, due to recognized criteria for mere consideration of inclusion, along with the duties of head coach, the unwritten but fully understood obligation that is attached with membership is of such importance, comprehending the limitations and, although never publicly stated for obvious reasons, what amounts to forfeiture of autonomous thought, that could easly lead to public perception such decisions are based solely on the potential benefit of Michigan football, devoid of any thought whatsoever toward the welfare of other programs.

Their concerns were obviously sincere, more than likely, a result of the fact they, too, did similar things in their early days, but `together with increased tenure, recognition of the warning signs, almost always evident, becomes easier and easier until selfish, unacceptable behavior is nothing more than habitual.

I am almost certain that Coach Harbaugh, if given a vote of confidence by the fan base, and the comfort that comes without the worry of losing his job, will lead to measures resulting in such unique actions as conducting polls aimed at determining the optimum date and time for future Spring Games. Although my membership status, obviously still entry level but with mid-level management now a viable possibility, it is my hope you will join together in an effort to ensure his retention. I am conjfident that by so doing, both your concern with unreasonable starting times for The Spring Game will be addressed and corrected, and my desire, a venue allowing for discussion of expectations as to  performance of the players, themselves, will also be realized. Along with these obvious benefits, I am confident the petulance experienced by the majority of you, will within 3 to 4 years be considered nothing but a memory.

The Spring Game comes around a time with a lot of cabin fever with people anxious to get out of the house. Seems like a good time to take an extra day off and come to Ann Arbor for the weekend. You can take in the Spring Game and get hyped up for a championship run in the upcoming season while catching some Men's and Women's lacrosse games in the Big House on Saturday.

Also, that weekend is the NCAA Women's Gymnastic's Regional meet at Crisler. These women are incredible and extremely fun to watch. This is a great time to support these tremendous athletes that don't always get the attention they deserve.

Part of the Harbaugh Effect is shining a light on the other student athletes and programs at Michigan. How many other college football coaches show up for the first serve at a tennis match like Harbaugh did last night??

Suck it up and enjoy the ride. We are entering the golden age of Michigan athletics and Jim Harbaugh is paving the way.

ps - I hope they will be giving away birthday cake at the Spring Game to celebrate Bo and Bob Ufer's birthdays!
