Source Report Sources: Durkin to Maryland Comment Count

In seemingly done but not official news that would have been way more disappointing last week:

I think we all assumed that Durkin would be a head coach sooner or later, but not after one year, and not in Michigan's division. At least Durkin gets away from Ohio State's offense, though. Yeah.

Unless there's an 11th-hour switch here, Michigan needs a new DC and/or a LB/DL coach. Mattison can handle either unit in the front seven and could get bumped back up to the main job; Greg Jackson might be a DC possibility as well—the job he and Zordich did with Michigan's DBs was terrific.

Steve Lorenz has three DC names to watch that includes a familiar name: former Michigan DC and Syracuse HC Scott Shafer. Shafer did get a really raw deal here the first time around.

I love that idea. he did get a bad deal and he was a good coach who sacrificed a lot to come here the first time. I hope he comes back

Good Riddance. DJ was a Meyer flunkie and as bad as they played against Ohio, I can't help but wonder... Now the Ohio players are whining saying that they deserve the Rose Bowl because although they played like shite all season, they crushed M.

Was hoping DJ would stay 2-3 yrs and build a powerhouse with Harbaugh. Now, someone else gets the opportunity. I'm sure Jim has a few names in mind; if he wanted GMatt, wouldn't he have just kept him in that position? Good luck to Coach Durkin (I'm afraid he's going to need it) and "Thanks!" for a job well done.

and this might of already been said as I didn't read all the posts.

It's too bad he didn't wait a year or two.  I feel he would have gotten a better HC job and had his pick of where he wanted to do. I also feel that anyone hired in this new staff should of pledged 2 to 3 years to get the ball rolling.  I get it and understand the wanting to advance. I really do.  I do feel though it was too soon and I don't think it should of been allowed (not that it can probably be stopped) that he went to a Big 10 team and also think it's wrong that he won't coach the bowl game ( I think I read that ).

All in all I do get it, but I actually personally think it was a crappy thing to do.  But that is just my own personal opinion.

I think we will be totally fine though and Jackson could do the duties honestly.

JH knows how to find the right people, so I am not worried at all actually.

Some people are meant to be head coaches.  JH is that person.  Some are meant and are better at position coaches or coordinators.  I actually think DJ is not HC material which is not a cut down.  It's just how it is sometimes.  I wish him luck regardless, but I also hope we beat the living hell out of him and the Terps when we play them!   =)
