OT: What is your second favorite rivalry in sports?

Submitted by The Dirty Nil on
Assuming everyone on the board would share the same opinion on the number one rivalry, what is the second best?

I'll say Canadiens vs Bruins. Those games have been intense the last several years.

My favorite rivalries are all those involving the teams I root for. So excluding Michigan, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, Lions, Wolverhampton and Roma.....

Probably Florida St-Miami when both teams werer good. Same state, going after similar prospects, similar records of success. Lots of friends or past acquaintences playing against each other.

When I was a kid:

Georgia-Georgia Tech

Georgia-Auburn

Braves-Dodgers (back when they were both in the NL West)

Later on:

Braves-Mets (especially during the Larry "Chipper" Jones years - classic Chipper (paraphrased) quote: "No, it doesn't bother me. That's my name.")

Georgia-Florida

Now:

Michigan-michigan state in any sport

Michigan-notre dame (football)

Least favorite:

Yankees-Red Sox (OMG ESPN, do you have to play up every single yanks-sox game during the regular season as some sort of titanic clash of the century of the year of the week of the day?)
