Randy Edsell as next potential ND coach?
Joe Schad is reporting that ND and Randy Edsall have mutual interest. What interests me is that this is coming out as Kelly to ND was apparently a "done deal." Maybe not so done after all. I don't know much about Edsall but he seems like a good coach given what he's done with UConn. It'll make our games with UConn and ND interesting this coming season if he takes the job.

because there is no dark nefarious reason to hate ND for it, of course :)

Who will be the next Notre Dame Head Coach?

Just like with Stoops, it will be Kelly until he says "I will not be the next head coach at ND", thats all I know

It really really looks like Kelly, should find out very soon

Edsell is most likely a bargaining chip. But, wow, that would be funny if he was actually hired. No disrespect, but he is not the most qualified candidate for ND.

but my concern if I was Irish would be the possible recruiting hit in the next couple years before Edsell establishes himself. This is especially dangerous with Clausen, Tate and experienced linemen leaving this year.
At least with Kelly, he can go out show the two BCS bowls at Cincy and highlight reals of ungodly offenses scoring crap loads of points (not to mention David Kircus NFL contract Xerox's). I think Edsell may be a better head coach than Weis, but his recruiting chops may not be what Notre Dame is used to.
Then again, it is Notre Dame, and Bob frakkin Davie got blue chippers to come there...

Edsall doesn't have the win/loss pedigree that Kelly does, but he has a pretty darn good track record at getting recruits drafted by the NFL which is probably just as important (if not more so) to these kids. I think he could easily make the, "I turned 2 or 3 star players into first day picks, just imagine what I can do for you," pitch to high school kids.

A Dan Orlovsky pick-6 +1 to you sir.

I am going to Slit my wrists (Remember down the street, not across the tracks). Then become a UM fan. Everyone is harping on Kelly's lack of defense? Have you seen Edsall's outstanding performance this year?
Rushing D: Kelly 56 Edsall 48 (this is the only stat that is close.)
Passing D: Kelly 49 Edsall 94
Total D: Kelly 48 Edsall 72
Scoring D: Kelly 24 Edsall 60
Swarbrick painted himself into a corner by saying he was going to find a coach that liked Rushing the ball and playing defense. Neither one of these guys fit the bill. But if you can honestly say that hiring Edsall is a good thing then I would say to you that so is punching your mother in mouth.

I want to admit I was wrong with my speculation so I don't join the group of posters who pound out opinions never admitting they were wrong.
Now for my next bit of wild-assed speculation: Kelly doesn't finish his 5 years at ND. If he's successful he goes NFL and if he sucks they get another coach after year 4.
