Harbaugh hires Wayne Lyons' mom

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per Mark Snyder at The Paper That Shall Not Be Named, Gwendolyn Bush, who is the mother of Stanford CB Wayne Lyons, has been hired as the director of player development. On Twitter, she referred to the position as "team mom". I think we can safely assume Lyons is coming.

Harbaugh must've gotten to know her while recruiting Lyons. Also, apparently Lyons is a great student and really good kid, so I'd assume the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

EDIT: So, it sounds like she was also the "team mom" for the South Florida Elite 7-on-7 team that featured, among others, Amari Cooper, Geno Smith, and Teddy Bridgewater. All those guys apparently loved her.

This is the new regime right?  You hire Rashan Gary's coach out of HighSchool.  Replacement worked for Harbaugh as well.

Crystal Ball: Michigan.

at issue. Couple of points: We don't know know when Mrs. Lyons was hired, because Harbaugh hires have begun work well before the office of redundant announcements have gotten around to their official proclamation on whatever social media platform seems necessary or equivalent.

And secondly, timing is everything here, especially if Mrs. Lyons son doesn't enroll at Michigan for his last year of eligibility.

Thus far, Harbaugh has pursued this job with gusto and a quick trigger finger while attacking the job with an edge that WE all secretly wanted and now realize we will get from this dynamic coach. He just wants to get things done, and done quickly. Nepotisim doesn't even enter into the equation for him. And it's been rampant thus far.

After all, Michigan recruited Harbaugh to Michigan because of what it knew about him growing up with his dad on the football program payroll. He worked for his dad as a coach, and then later hired his dad as a coach. His brother hired his son as a coach, and now he has put his son on the payroll as a coach. Why is any of that different than hiring support people with connections to future or current recruits? That's how the game is played in business isn't it?

Harbaugh went after Tyrone Wheatly and that hire led to the successful recruitment of his son, a major get for the program. I mean football coaching is a very small and fraternal world and people do what needs to be done to succeed.

If Urban Meyer wants a great running back from Detroit to attend his school so Michigan can't get him, then his primary recruiter doesn't acknowledge that he has another job lined up to start once signing day is over and Mike Weber's NLI has hit the inbox in Columbus. All is fair in love anr recruiting and finding more than enough guys to fill your roster in order to win so long as you can divine the right to make all these moves without a guilty conscience.

You want to challenge Harbaugh's hiring and recrutiing practices, you better understand where he learned the business.

So, if Michigan needs a Team Mom as director of player development and she was discovered as a result of the past recruitment of her son who is now enrolled in Stanford and still under scholarship there, it will only be conicidence if this leads to his enrollment at Michigan for a fifth and final year of eligibility, so long as he meets the academic requirements for this transfer prospect. Who knew? It was just one of those things.

If she is qualified, there is nothing to talk about. When I first read director of player development, I'll admit I was a bit concerned. I thought she was in charge of development on the football field, which she is in no way qualified for. Once I realized the position was to ensure proper development as men off the football field, I realized that she is uniquely qualified and is going to be an asset for Michigan, for years to come. Also, Jim Harbaugh knows how to build a program, so sit back, relax, and enjoy.
