Grantland: Dear Jim Harbaugh: Just Go to Michigan

Submitted by mgoblue99 on

New article from Grantland.com regarding the Harbaugh situation (apologies if that has been posted already; I searched and did not see that it had been):

From the article: "What amount of money makes life in the NFL worth it? He can go to Ann Arbor tomorrow and be a king."

His coming to Ann Arbor makes all the sense in the world. It only won't happen if his ego won't let him because he wants a super bowl.

As the article says his personality grinds on people- stars are gone in 3 years in college.  they will remember him lovingly.

Additionally, pros don't get incrementally better every year while college players see tremendoug growth year to year.  This fits his demanding style and makes him less grinding.

It is all win-win.  That and he gets to be Emperor.

Andrew Sharp is a fantastic writer, and basically the only sportswriter I read regularly. He's entertaining and logical, but this may just be his best piece ever.

Is there a reason everyone is ignoring the glaring error at the beginning of the article?  Just about err'body even tangetialy involved with college or pro football and a twitter account came out and refuted Gil Brandt's "tweet", including the school itself (which would have no interest in doing so unless it was completely false).

That the author seems wholly unaware his opening salvo in this argument is flawed thows up a red flag for me.

The more I read about it, it sure seems like a mess trying to navigate the NFL process of moving to another team, particulaly with the "trade" scenario in place and with the Raiders potential move to LA, etc, etc,  It sure would seem convenient to be able to flip them all off and come home.

If he wants to stay in the NFL then he will figure it out.  But if he's grown weary from the bad situation that he just experienced, and the danger lurking for it to reoccur with today's pro athletes, I have to think that making a clean break to college, and getting the band back together, would start to sound pretty good...

From the Wickersham article Sharp quotes:

"He is a vessel of pain. He inflicts it and welcomes it. Practice is supposed to suck. Games are supposed to hurt. Most coaches arrive with a calculated, five-year plan. Harbaugh's plan is kick ass"

Yes please.

I liked Jim before but after reading this, I fell in love. I want my King Harbaugh!

That whole reference to the Leauge of Shadows... lol.  Let the meme's commence, please.

I'm a man and I'm 32 and out of shape.  Today, if I was going onto the big house football field after hearing that speech, I think I could take anybodies head off.  Bring on Bosa!!!

Key work was "think".  I would probably wake up days later from a concussion induced coma.  But I'd go after him damnit!!!
