Marcus Ray at UM Flint

(Please excuse any formatting as I am on my phone.) I just attended an alumni club dinner where Marcus Ray was the guest speaker. First off, he has an amazing story and is a captivating speaker. He took us through his entire life experience from high school to now. A few bullets to help make this not tl;dr: • Peyton Manning was almost a Wolverine • Marcus was homeless in 2010 • Staying for his senior season was the right decision but he lost the chemistry he had with woodson, so he didn't perform as well • Says Nick Saban could legitimately come to Michigan, acknowledging how crazy he sounds. • Hoke's mistake is the assistants and that he would keep Hoke on two conditions: 1) if the right candidate is not available and 2) if he replaces four coaches. Overall he is a man of excellent character making his own path through life with some great ideas for the program. He's looking to get into perhaps FS1 or ESPN soon. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for him in the years to come.

Hoke hates these young men. He is really hurting Michigan more than most can fathom. Will we recover? Saban coming is crazy, but money talks. I doubt he would leave Alabama regardless. We have been more relevant than Texas and I thought they might be able to pull him.

Last week Ray was on Sam Webb's Friday afternoon show. Ray said that if he were AD he'd bring Hoke back for one more year. If Hoke wins a B1G championship, he stays. Otherwise, he replaces him with a home run hire. This seems like a very bad idea. What if Hoke loses the first two B1G games next year he is a lame duck with lots of season to go. What if he goes 11-2 and wins the Sugar Bowl (or other big bowl), but doesn't win the B1G (has happened before). What makes a home run hire any more likely next year?

I know its a drop in the bucket for most of them but I find it kind of interesting that a group of Alabama boosters felt it was necessary to pay off Sabans house in Alabama. I don't think that was a thanks for everything he has done so far. Might it be that his inner circle has let it be known that Nomadic Nick is getting a little restless and wants a new challenge. Just sayin'.

for being a darn good safety in 1996-97 - 98 not so much after he was suspended for 6 games.

We haven't had someone quite as good at playing CF in the secondary for a long time.

I'm more interested, going forward, in having almost all of our former players backing the new coach than what RR got from SOME of Lloyd's guys. Marcus and others should make sure that happens and call out people who try to undermine the new guy.
