By the way, I want depth too. I just think that the Lions need to risk a little depth for better players. This is a franchise that has not consistently drafted well like the teams you mentioned.

Although ESPN isn't nearly as bad tonight. Last night it was embarassing it was so bad.
Except ESPN isn't even showing the picks live, anymore. They just talk about them after the fact, because they were on commercial break when the pick happened. (And, yes, I know, you can just go on Twitter and get all the spoilers, if you want them.)

But yesterday, ESPN's analyst should've all been fired on the spot. They were AWFUL.

Martin would've been a nice pick for the Lions....Raiola is long in the tooth. Still a couple other C's in Stork and Ikard that I like though, wouldn't take them in 3 though. Definitely in round 4.
I was hoping for Martin to fall to the Lions here in the 3rd. I hope they go secondary with this 3rd round pick now.

As a 49ers fan, can't say I'm too thrilled about Hyde... He's a beast player though, we have so many draft picks that trade makes Hyde a steal.
I like the 49ers as well and it was "meh," but he's a beast and he'll be a perfect replacement to Gore. You can't let Lynch run all over you and not respond.
I'm hoping Lattimore recovers well and we can flip Hyde =P

It might be a reach, but I think the Lions wanted to lock up their future center now.
One thing Mayhew is rarely accused of is reaching to fill a need, plus if you pick a guy in the 3rd that was projected to the 4th, it's definitely not the same as picking a guy in the 1st that was projected to the 2nd. We knew we needed a center, we got what I assume is a good one and he can learn the ropes for a year from Raiola. No complaints frome me. I cocked a very skeptical eyebrow yesterday but the Day 2 work is pretty much unimpeachable.
