Is Minter really gone?
It's generally assumed (and reported as fact) that Minter has been hired by the Chargers, but Jim's press conference made it seem like his DC search is still an ongoing process, though he liked Minter a lot. Meanwhile, when asked by McCafee about replacements for Minter, Coach Moore said they haven't "replaced the defensive coordinator yet..." thought they have guys in the boat to do that (if necessary). He then went on to talk about how great the staff is and how they were trying to retain as many of them as possible. Is it possible there's still an ongoing battle for Minter's services, and, if so, couldn't UM offer him $3-4 million per year (perhaps they have?) to see if the Chargers really want to match that? It's one thing for the Bolts to ante up $16 million for Jim, but do they really want to outbid Michigan for every other staff member? Cue the "no one knows anything" responses, but has there been a definitive report (or even a somewhat solid insider account) that Minter has told UM or the players that he's gone? If there has been and I missed it, then apologies!

Gone like a freight train. Gone like yesterday. Gone like a soldier in the Civil War. Bang Bang! Gone like a '59 Cadillac. Like all the good things, that ain't ever comin' back.

ANN ARBOR (OPI) - Sources close to the situation have indicated that former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is weighing a return to Ann Arbor. Minter, who had been earmarked to join former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh with the Los Angeles Chargers, is closely monitoring fan engagement on MGoBlog as a barometer for whether he should remain. He had been planning to post his thoughts on the famous blog regarding a possible return to Michigan, but since points have been frozen he is currently below the threshold required to make a new forum topic.

Minter passed in 2020. He was a decent middleweight, good enough to hold both the WBA and WBC titles in 1980, but he was simply not in Hagler's class:

You misunderstood what he said to McAfee -- he meant "no replacement had been found", not "Minter hasn't left"

I would like Moore to look at Steve Belichick for a role on the Defense.

Perhaps he has to put on a show about searching for an offensive coordinate (not unlike those who said we should perform a 'proper' search for HC instead of just promoting Moore)?
But yes, Minter is gone.

I don’t think the Chargers have announced any new coaches. Besides Jim. I’m sure it’s all about Jim , for a couple weeks. But he has a good idea on most of his staff And Minter is part of that staff
