Michigan Baseball off to Great Start (Ranked #17)

It's still very early in the season and we are also in the midst of a great basketball season (Despite the loss yesterday, it is still a great season), but we should recognize the job Erik Bakich is doing with our baseball program.

They are ranked #17 coming off of a 6-0 start while outscoring opponents 44-10. Next week, the competition heats up as they head out west to play #19 Oklahoma State and #4 UCLA. It will be interesting to see how they handle the trip, but the team is definitely in a good place.

Michigan is one of only two ranked teams from the Big Ten with Illinois coming in at #25. Starting pitcher Tommy Henry has been phenomenal in his two starts. He is at the top of the NCAA in strikeouts with 22 in just 15 innings pitched. Better yet, he recently had a complete game 1-hit performance.

It's tough for a baseball team in the North, but it's nice to be respectable. Let's go win the B1G this year boys!

They're 20 in Baseball America's poll. I think the next games are at Cal State Northridge. CSUN is 5-3 after taking the last three games of a four game series with Gonzaga this past weekend.

That's great news! Unfortunately, I have learned my lesson with Michigan Baseball to temper all expectations until the conference season starts getting toward the end of things. Here's hoping the usual pattern of regression does not happen this year!

It's nice having Bakich at Michigan. He has some inherent disadvantages not coaching in the south or west, but he's done a nice job. I hope he stays around for a while.
