Lacrosse @ Jacksonville, 11:30 AM Today (on CBS Sports)
Lacrosse tries to bounce back from a heartbreaking double OT loss against Drexel on Tuesday as they travel to Florida to take on Jacksonville. Michigan jumped out to big early leads in both of their games so far but let their opponents back in it both times. So they'll have to figure out how to stay hot.
J'ville is 0-3 with a two-goal loss to Marquette last week and they kicked off the season with a one-goal loss to Detroit. They also hung with Duke for a half before ultimately getting blown out. Michigan should win this game but once again it won't be easy.
It will air on CBS Sports Network at 11:30 AM today. Make sure to set our DVRs or access the stream.
GO BLUE!!!
One interesting note: according to the roster, J'ville has an attackman from Canada named Bo Bowhunter. You'll have to tune in to see if he's real or not.

This Romo-like announcer is annoying.

He really sucks

3-1 M
February 23rd, 2019 at 12:21 PM ^
Our set offense looks pretty good so far but a lot of sloppy unforced turnovers. Hope we can clean that up and put some more points on the board.
4-2.
February 23rd, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
M defender goes coast to coast with a longpole goal.
5-2.

6-4.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:03 PM ^
Ugh getting hard to watch.
6-6.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:03 PM ^
And it's tied, 6-6. This team has to play better in the second half of games if they want to win games.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
And the turnovers are just so frustrating. A lot of these mistakes we didn't even make in my club days. Hope we can still get it done.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
There we go. Very nice EMO goal.
8-6

February 23rd, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Noseworthy with the hat trick. 11-10
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Stop the turnovers! OMG!
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
Michigan hangs on for the win! Go Blue!
Take away the turnovers and that's an easy win for Michigan. Great defense and outstanding goaltending from Tommy Heidt today. On to the next one.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
And they hang on! 11-10 win for the Wolverines!
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Phew, that was close. Kind of frustrating how we kept forfeiting our edge. Almost as frustrating as the announcer having such am enthusiasm asymmetry favoring Jacksonville.
For JU: "OMFGITSAGOOOOOALHERESSOMESPITTLE!!!"
For M: "hmm, well that's another score."
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
The Post Malone references were especially obnoxious.
February 23rd, 2019 at 2:00 PM ^
Yeah, their favoritism was pretty overt. At least we got a game on TV, so I'm not gonna complain too much.
February 23rd, 2019 at 3:04 PM ^
So glad we won so those two buffoons would shut up.
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Elsewhere in college lacrosse:
Richmond 9, #8 Notre Dame 8 Final
Johns Hopkins 11, #14 UNC 10 Final
St. John's 10, #11 High Point 9 Final
#6 Yale 7, #2 Penn State 6 3Q
Michigan plays @ St. John's next Saturday at noon. Looks like St. John's is a legit team after beating #11 High Point. High Point would've risen even further in the polls after beating #12 Virginia on Monday if they had not lost to St. John's today.
February 23rd, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
Wow the early slate of games just finished up - insane amount of close games.
Nova beat Hofstra in OT, 10-9
Princeton and Virginia are tied at 11 in the 4th
And in games relevant to Michigan:
That ND upset should be an encouraging sign for Michigan. Marquette is also getting beat pretty bad by Detroit right now
Drexel took ALbany to the brink but lost 13-12 (we should root for Drexel to have a good year)
I wonder if no one has really mastered the rule changes yet and that's why we're seeing so many close games and upsets, if it's somehow leveling the playing field for everyone. It seems to have made the game more erratic and a bit sloppy but it's definitely delivering some compelling matchups.
February 23rd, 2019 at 3:02 PM ^
what changes? new in 19 I take it?
February 23rd, 2019 at 3:15 PM ^
80 second shot clock
Diving into the crease is also legal again
February 23rd, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
Damn that was close. Again, they turned it over a lot in the last few minutes, giving the ball back to J'ville and giving them more opportunities to tie it up.
I wonder what the groundball stats looked like in the 4th quarter. It seemed like J'ville won a lot of the loose balls in the 4th and down the stretch (this also seemed to happen against Drexel). And they have to cut down those unforced turnovers where they just throw the ball away. I wonder if this is a result of them being tired late in the game. BUt, hopefully they can clean it up going forward. Next week vs St. John's should be tough as well.
Heidt was great - and he actually got nailed on the ground ball he scooped up late in the 4th, should've been a penalty. I'm all for physical play (and body checks are a dying art in the game) but that was late and on the goalie, they should've thrown the flag.

Nice win

Jacksonville can be tough, so it’s good to get a win, on the road no less.
Ive really liked what I’ve seen from clay. He can beat his defender and create opportunities. Hopefully we get to see him grow into that role a bit more this year like chase young did last year.
