Those reviews were hilarious snow day reading. I read the Simpson article without making the connection re: the author. Nice article about Simpson.

Considering he's still making $$$ after that hit job, I don't feel sorry for him at all.

I started reading this at the Dr. Office (hard copy of SI). Didn’t realize who wrote it (I’m pretty obtuse about such things). It was a fun read. Too bad I can’t finish it without adding clicks.

I vaguely remember this: "Yaklich is still in awe of one play last year in practice when Simpson got over a screen, deflected the ball, dove for it but didn't get it, hit his head on the floor, bounced up into a defensive stance, then stole the ball again." What game was this?
Edit: Woof. Nvm.

Did you not read what you quoted?

Reading is hard. Just went back, and yikes, me.

Simpson said it best, “but now it’s GRITTY WITH THE PRETTY.” Possibly a new T-shirt?

Hate on the author if you want, but that's a great article

Oooh! Interesting tidbit buried in there:
"Matthews, a transfer from Kentucky, has become a dominant wing defender."
Did anybody else know Charles Matthews originally went to Kentucky?
Sarcasm aside, this quote is the only mention of Charles Matthews. It's an article about Zavier Simpson and this particular paragraph simply mentioned how his teammates (spefically Matthews, Teske & Poole) have excelled on defense. What that has to do with Matthews' original enrollment at UK, I will never understand. It adds no depth, no context. It's just a nonsense factoid. The guy has been in Ann Arbor for 3 years. When does he stop being a Kentucky loaner? Is it never? I feel like the answer is never.

I did not know that Matthews went to Kentucky before Michigan, just I had no idea that John Beilein has never been an assistant and have never heard that he said Poole had an "overdose of swag" after the Houston shot. I had never heard any of that.

Guess pretty and gritty beats with pity and shitty.

dang. i didn't think i could like him (or beilein) more than i already did. but there you have it.
EDIT: i had no idea this was by rosenberg until i read the comments here.
i'll just say it - you people need to get over it. life's too short to be butthurt.

No, life is really fucking long when you get down to it. And no, grudges exist for a reason. Don't do a shitty thing and assune everyone will follow some mythical moral route and forgive you. Also not reading someone's work isn't being butthurt, it's just not giving them the time of day, the opposite of butthurt.
February 21st, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
okay, i'll put it another way. life's too short to categorically refuse to even read an article about a player you like because the guy that wrote it wrote something you didn't like...let's see...ten years ago. seriously. grow up and get over it.

It's a damn tragedy people are missing out on this article. Get over it and stop being petty.

Came for a sweet Rick Reilly take on former Cincy poor man's BJ Askew... Mister Simpson. But all I'm doing now is leaving disappointed.
