Talking Basketball Saturday (and your beverage of choice)

Mates,

So lets talk some hoops.  First, very nice win today, a number of Mgobloggers in attendance, had to be fun.   Second, how could you not pull for Rutgers.  Saw the highlight of that last second shot.  Poor Rutgers, indeed.   And just checked the box score, looks like Kentucky is murderizing Tennessee by 20 points.  Would like to see that hold up, too.

Now for Michigan.  We've got 5 games left in the regular season:

@ Minny 2/21

Home against sparty and Nebraska, 2/24, 2/28, respectively.

@ Maryland on 3/3

@ sparty 3/9.

So what's our record in these last 5 games?  Even a pessimist would give the nod to at least 2 and probably 3 victories.  Do we do better than that?

And what is in your cup this evening?  Coffee, water, or something more?

Hope you are having an enjoyable holiday (for some) weekend.  Did any of you go see Scanner Blue sing with that great ensemble?  Would be awesome, I'm sure.

I’m guessing they finish 3-2 and I’d be perfectly fine with that.  4-1 would be amazing and 2-3 would be disappointing.

Either way we at least need a split with Sparty.

Don't think a pessimist would say "probably 3-2."  Not when 3 are on the road where we are but 4-3 with the 4 wins being Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, and Rutgers. Illinois is playing well now but weren't when we beat them.

Thursday is absolutely critical to our title hopes given that Minnesota seems to be a high variance team and we were all out to beat them at Crisler.

I'm really hoping UM can go 4-1 in these last five games.

What I find interesting is that not enough people seem to be pointing out that Purdue is in the best position to win the Big Ten. They have the easiest remaining schedule by a mile when compared to UM or MSU.

And it's not like Purdue got an edge from the differences in the unbalanced schedules.

How I look at it

Opponent(s)                               Purdue        Michigan
PU @ Mich/ vs or @Iowa*           L/W               W/L
Home & Away vs MSU                W/L                2U
Home & Away vs MD                   W/L               W/U
Home & Away vs MN                   W/U              W/U
@Wiscy                                           W                  L
The Professor & MaryAnn       6W/0L/5U     9W/1L/1U

U = Upcoming

* Purdue played away against Mich & at home vs Iowa
  Mich played at home against Purdue and away vs Iowa

We may need to win out to tie Purdue for the B1G regular season crown.  The way I'm looking at it is that we haven't lost any of our remaining games yet (while recognizing the difficulty).

Seems like the consensus is that we'll lose at least one game to MSU.  I don't see it.

I'm watching the Spartans play right now and they are simply not that good of a basketball team offensively.  I know we've had our struggles on that end as well; but I think Michigan is WAY more explosive.  I think MSU will have a ton of trouble scoring against M.  Michigan is more athletic, has a coaching advantage, and has more guys that can score on the other end.

Also; it looks like Nick Ward's hand injury might be something serious.

Mark my words; Michigan wins both games.

I could easily see Michigan finishing 2-3. They basically can’t play on the road. Hope I am wrong. Really don’t care about winning the Big Ten. Split with Staee and make the Sweet 16.
