I’d agree except for the fact that Michigan running backs have largely done... nothing for the last decade.

Simply being at Michigan doesn’t mean we’re better than Indiana at every position. They’ve had some pretty good backs go through there.

Jay seems competent. That doesn’t mean he’s good. It also doesn’t mean Hart is for sure better.

However, I’d bet Hart would be an upgrade over Jay in all ways. Simply because Hart has moved up the coaching ranks based on his successes - not his name.

All-time best RB pass protector.  Gave me something to feel decent about when he was teeing off on the blitzers Oregon kept sending even though game was a blowout.

I love how this thread became about how Jay shouldn’t be RB coach.

Good lord people.  Get our first 1000 yard RB since Fitz in 2011 and you just wanna bitch about the RB coach cause he’s Jim’s kid.  Get a life.  Mike Hart wouldn’t get Charbonnet I bet.

I don’t think jays coaching got higdon to 1000 yard... I think an improved offensive line (warriner) and improved qb play (passing game) helped higdon, Hart would be an upgrade over jay and in time Hart will probably be a better recruiter

You really don't think a RB coach who was, actually, a good RB would offer some unique coaching perspectives over a person who's never played the position and who has the job because their dad is HC?  Really?  I'm not saying Jay is not a decent teacher but I thought the point of Michigan is excellence...if we want put guys in a best position to succeed we need to get them the best possible coaching.  RB vision is difficult to coach up from what I understand...who better to train it than someone who actually had it and used it in games?

He definitely needs to take the job if he gets offered. He's done a great job at IU, but that place is a sinking ship right now. Gotta keep the momentum of your career going, and ND is a great place to do that

when hart played at UM, i had morning classes at angell hall and would see hart in the elevator time to time. he would always be surrounded by HUGE men which i assumed were OL players. also i was surprised how THICK hart was. it was like higdon's beefcake picture. he was as wide as he was tall. i would sort of stare wondering how a person could look like a square and he would catch me staring and give me what felt like a death beam from his eyes.

I've been a Michigan fan for a loooong time.  Way before cable tv.  Before the microwave oven.  Before the toaster oven.  Hell, before the tv remote control.  This isn't about Mike Hart the coach or about whether he could/should/would come to UM as a teacher and molder of men.  I think he's the best UM running back they've had during the years I've followed the team.  Am I wrong?
