Took Harbaugh 5 hours to recruit Gattis
Also according to the article, Saban did not take it very well when Gattis said he was leaving for Maryland.

I recommend listening to the Attack Each Day podcast, it was really good this week.
Gattis said he was floored at how hospitable Coach Harbaugh and the entire Michigan staff has been over the last few days.

Reading between the lines, he probably meant "the entire Michigan staff, with one exception that rhymes with Hep Pamilton."

It’s been crickets regarding Pep. Not sure what the hell is going on. Begging a NFL team to give him a position.

I was wondering today if he would strictly be the QB coach?
Would that be a slap in the face?

As long as Harbaugh isn't constantly over-ruling the playcall because we're down 14 and goes into a shell like this year, I think it's definitely an improvement. We have the athletes and now a decent OL to be expolosive if the play calls are there.

So Harbaugh sold Gattis on Michigan in roughly 5 hours, but Pep still isn't officially gone? Is Harbaugh going to go "two Bobs" on Pep and just "fix the glitch?"

Michigan still hasn't replaced Mattison at DL coach. Nor have they officially replaced Jim MacElwain with Ben McDaniels as Harbaugh indicated they would. So adding Gattis (and replacing Washington with Campanile) right now they have 9 of 10 assistant positions filled.
And it seems they have two guys to fill the same Offensive Coordinator spot - Pep & Gattis.
I guess they could go with a crazy offensive staff and keep Pep. But I think it's more likely they'll hire a DL coach, wait for Pep to find a soft landing spot and announce he's leaving the program (a la Drevno), and once that happens they'll officially fill the 10th spot with McDaniels.
Whew! It was fun overthinking that one.

It's pretty obvious they're waiting for Pep to find a landing spot. It's been reported that Jim won't fire him. I don't really care as long as he's not on the staff by the time spring practice starts.

No, I got the reference.
You (using your super-clever movie reference that only you knew about) implied that it's strange that we seemingly hired Pep's replacement with him still on staff. I verbally drew out, mostly for my own entertainment, who we've currently got on staff and what I think the fate of our coaching staff will be.

Make Pep a Federal employee?

I like the part where he says he stays at schools for awhile. Would love to see the guy really ramp it up on offense with all the firepower that is on the roster. Things are getting fun!!
Go Blue!!

Probably takes Pep 5 hours to start his computer
January 15th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
probably has a $$5,000 computer to bing search things on internet explorer and play around in Paint.

yoder knew even before gattis knew!!

a few thoughts....
1. i wonder if pep is simply gonna force their hand, and be fired, so he can collect a year salary while taking a year off. ie, if he doesnt find another job. do we have the salary space to do this ? i dont know how it works.
2. i also wonder if the DL coach is gonna be Bo Davis, and are waiting on it til April 13 when he clears the show cause. this is baseless, but wondering why its taking so long to get a DL coach, unless Jim is waiting for NFL playoffs to play out, to take someone from the pros...

May be waiting on Pep to move on so that coaching slot opens up. McDaniels is still sitting in one even though he has not been made permanent, so there is no room until a move is made.

Well, I think it’s fair to say that this is NOT another Nuss situation where Saban was “encouraging” Gattis to look elsewhere. That would seem to indicate that Saban wanted him to stay on and therefore this was a very strong hire.
=)

Harbaugh considers coaches as coaches and often hires people without knowing what position they'll coach or what their roles will be, then figures out what he wants them to do once they get here, and then often shuffles them around anyway.
Therefore, the move is obvious, Pep to D-line!

He has a bright future ahead of him as a tackling dummy.

To Hell with Saban. He is only 1 letter away from it now.
January 15th, 2019 at 2:59 PM ^
Gattis isn't trying to pull an Dan Enos and using Michigan as a launching pad to get a job with Alabama...is he?

Harbaugh! He wants to win more than any Monday morning arm chair fan, no doubt about that

I have a good feeling about this. Damn, now I want to watch Star Wars.
