Doesn't have to be football or basketball-related. Let's get deep!

I am thankful to own a small part of this great institution we call The University of Michigan.

My highlight of 2018 is graduating from U. S. Army Flight School as a Chinook pilot.

My 2019 goal is to lose 15 pounds.

I'm thankful that Michigan has coaches that do things the right way.  Win or lose, I don't see scandals coming, and to me, a non-alum, that means everything.  I think I'm a Michigan fan because things have always been done the right way, and it meets my moral compass.

My highlight of 2018... probably starting a new job with a 35% bump in pay.  Non-Financial? My Grand-Niece's 1st Birthday party.

Goal for 2019?  Get more miles on the bike.  It'll be a challenge with the new job, but it has to get done.

michigan sports-wise...

biggest highlight for me was being in the stadium for the penn state pantsing...i usually don't attend the big games, but this time i made an exception...my son also attended his first-ever michigan game with me, and it was really great to be able to share it all with him and see him enjoy it for the first time.  it's always been a dad-only thing, not because i've kept it away from him (i haven't - far from it), but because he really, truly doesn't care about sports, like at ALL.  and it was really a pleasure to find something that we might be able to share more in the future.

i'm thankful that the three sports that i care the most about - football, men's hoops, and women's hoops - are in the hands of really terrific coaches.  i know that, as long as those three are around, i won't ever think "that guy has to GO," like i did during the brady hoke / tommy amaker / brian elerbe regimes.

my biggest hope is not for national championships - you need things to break right for those to happen, no matter how talented you are - but for conference championships, for my teams to be "in the conversation" nationally, and (most importantly to me) for my teams to stay as clean as they currently are...and when a knucklehead inevitably shows up, that we deal with it quickly and transparently.

but none of that shit matters.  in real life, my biggest highlights / things i'm most thankful for / and hopes for the future are all related.  in september i put my daughter on a plane to japan for a year as an exchange student in kyoto.  she's struggled with depression and anxiety and self-harm all her life, and we worried that the light bulb would never go on.  but she got her meds right, got the right therapist, and now she's a 4.0 student at wmu and in full flight.  it's been an incredible journey.

and now i get to concentrate on getting my son to the same figurative place.  he's so close...

Highlight? As a church staff pastor it would be something probably spiritual and since its religious, I'll just leave it at that.

Goals for 2019: 1) finish my undergrad degree that I started 25 years ago and did not complete, and get my diploma with my oldest daughter. 2) A week after graduation walk my oldest daughter down the aisle to be married. 3) Send my youngest daughter to college (she's been accepted to 4 schools, waiting on 2 more before deciding) and begin our time as semi-empty nesters. 4) Attain next level of ministerial accreditation and then you can call me Bishop. :)
