Football awards
I went to the new format football awards at Crisler and won't go through every award, but here are a few highlights:
MVP -- Chase
Defensive Player of the Year -- Devin
Offensive Player of the Year -- Shea
Offensive lineman of the year -- Runyan (first father/son combo to win the award)
Toughest player -- Bredeson
Ufer spirit award -- Wangler
Rookies of the year (offiense, defense, special teams) -- Ronnie Bell, Aidan Hutchinson, Will Hart
Top coaching staff member -- Brown
Top non-coaching staff member -- Herbert
I thought that it was odd that the team MVP wasn't player of the year on his side of the ball though I imagine that the voting was close. The best acceptance speech was, not surprisingly, from Chase who said that he was upset after Indiana because his grandma has given him $5 since he was a kid for every game he finishes, and due to injury he lost out on his 5 bucks. He then thanked Greg Mattison for teaching him so much adding that "it looks like he gave me most of his hair."

I would think all of you would be behind the choices made by the people who did vote for all the awards. They apparently voted their hearts. Yet you come in here and bad mouth the players, coaches their families and each other. Calling each other names when you should be treating each other with the respect that fans of this great university should.
Might I suggest some of you practice respect and common curtesy.
rant over

Please feel free to rant more often. You are not wrong.
I have been supporting this program for life and will continue to be supportive for what life I have left. I will not bad mouth players and coaches. It's really disheartening that the OSU game has resulted in people attacking instead of banding together.

Curtesy? Hm.

Curtsy when you say that.

The Osu game wrecked everything...

Hate what I’m hearing about Higdon and his dad being unhappy with the staff. This is not the look we want publicly right now.

The staff gave Karan a scholarship to an amazing university. The staff coached Karan for four years, bringing him from a little-used freshman to an all-conference first-teamer as a senior. The staff made Karan captain of the team. The staff has put Karan in a wonderful position to get drafted into the biggest professional sports league in the world.
If Karan's dad is upset about a little post-season award after all of that and chooses to flip the program the bird as they're walking out the door, that would just be so dang sad, and I know they'd regret it.

They ran Higdon into a stacked box over & over ...& he got pummeled. Use the pass to set up run...& use some misdirection at times.
Mich only hope is getting a good OC in - & spread the word that change is in the midst on both sides of the ball. Recruits bailing after that clown show display in Columbus...

How is that different than any other game he's played in?

They did it while down three touchdowns in the 3rd quarter while scoring zero points.
Any other mysteries you need to be solved?

So who gave the best speech?
December 10th, 2018 at 9:09 AM ^
It's different when you have the lead & controlling the clock. When playing from behind against a good team where we needed momentum & to control the ball to keep their O off the field - not a good idea to run into a stacked box & huddle up after every one for 30 seconds to burn more clock yet.

So with a better OC we could have won 65-62?
December 10th, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
Yes. Or at least lost a shootout which is a ton less embarrassing than what happened.

Scoring 39 should not lead to losing in a blow out. The problem was their ability to score at will. That's not on our OC.

He should sit out. I mean what 5-7 round draft pick should not try to improve his stock because he didn't get the ball enough in the OSU game(Which he should of been the guy running ball)
I like Higdon but my goodness he is an above average Michigan running back. I think family thinks he is a little bit better than what he really is.

I agree. Good college running back who was helped immensely by our system. Hopefully, he makes some money in the NFL and doesn't ruin his body. I can't see him ever getting a second contract since a decent number of better RBs are going to enter the draft every year he's in the league.

These awards and the drama behind them are worse than a middle school sports awards banquet. So dumb. Just eat dinner and go home for crying out loud.

first thing that jumped into my head when reading the award recipients
Ben Mason might win a few of these in coming years
