OT - Ray Rice Domestic Violence Video
With the negative attention the NFL is receiving for player behavior, it will be interesting to see how they handle this. Apparently their is a video of them hitting each other.
The police issued tickets to both of them which would obviously mean that she hit him first. This is still a very strong man who obviously struck a female very hard. The video does not paint a pretty picture.

I'd be in favor of a domestic violence conviction resulting in a voided contract from any professional league. Thoughts? Hitting a woman and a DUI are about the two most irresponsible and reckless things a grown man can do (and still avoid jailtime and keep his job).

Lets all jump on this and describe his actions and the punishments you feel he deserves in the most lurid terms we can find.

Yes you did. According to multiple reports in the media the footage taken from the elevator itself shows Rice hitting her it simply has not been released to the public yet. What you're seeing her is the video taken from a cellphone watching a survalence video of him leaving the elevator.
Unless the police who have allegedly seen the video are lying he definitely hit her. Hard.

I'm sure there will be (booking) pictures released illustrating any bruising she may have, as well. All will come out.

are based on a a video that none of us has actually viewed? That would be about par for this place.

I mean, I know none of us have actually seen him hit her but
- The article says "Atlantic City cops said earlier this week that surveillance video showed Rice and Palmer strike each other." (emphasis mine)
- There's video of him carrying a lifeless woman out of an elevator
- They were both charged with domestic violence - simple assault
I don't think anyone is exactly leaping to unfounded conclusions here

And men are never arrested for allegedly hitting women based on a woman's lie.

Nothing here shows he hit her, at all. He casually drug her out of the elevator, and actually appeared to be handling her with some car at that point. Was she drunk off her ass? She barely moves. He could have hit her, but that video certainly does not prove it.

However, the other video showing the alleged assault is the one that will be important in this going forward. How hard did he hit her? Granted, no soft or hard hit is ever acceptable, but did his force knock her out? That evidence will decide his fate.

Are some people not reading the OP? Clearly states there is video of him hitting her, I'm sure we'll all see it soon, please stop looking for other excuses as to why she is unconscious - you look like you're defending a wife (fiance) beater.

form. If it makes you feel better to throw that accusation around on top of all the other baseless accusations, feel free. I am suggesting that we not act like a bunch of braying jackasses until we have some facts to base our judgements and comments upon.

You're right, I'll wait until the video comes out. If she had a gun or knife drawn on him then I'll understand his hitting her to defend himself. Otherwise, I tend to believe the police/detectives to claim to have seen the video. They have no reason to make it up as it will be made public, unless they were Steeler fans.
Since no gun or weapon was found with her, there is no chance Rice's life was in danger, and he in turn put her life in danger, he could've killed her. I'm usually one for a wait and see until we see the evidence, but in this situation the circumstantial evidence doesn't look good for him.

Fact: Ray Rice is dragging his unsconcious fiance out of an elevator
Fact: Fiance and Ray Rice were both conscious entering the elevator
Fact: Police have said they have video of them both assaulting each other in elevator
These are not "baseless accusations"

I'm glad everyone on here is so omniscient that they can judge someone else's personal life so quickly.
February 20th, 2014 at 10:41 AM ^
Agree that there is a tendency to rush to judgment in situations like this, but, when my wife and I have an argument, she doesn't just become unconscious through heated discourse.
Something bad happened here, it's pretty clear of that. What, specifically, is still being determined.

Impressively, in this thread, this applies to many of those supporting Rice *and* many of those lambasting him.

Apparently we are also assuming that is Ray Rice in the video.

He and his lawyer both admitted as much. So no, not assuming, confirming.

For an NFL player.
The wedding should be a fun event.

He just pissed away about $60 mil on his next deal.

So she SPIT on him?! that's about all I needed to hear. lowest thing you can do to a person.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
I hope this is sarcastic, or at least not serious.

we're clearly from two different worlds my friend. I have heard/seen my fair share of domestic violence stories. and where I'm from majority of the time the WOMAN is the aggressor. ie; throwing glass that shatters in the mans face; slicing his wrist with a knife; etc, AS the man is attempting to walk away . yet and still some feel he is supposed to be a REAL MAN and walk away. lol spare me. With that being said, Not for one second will i AUTOMATICALLY take her side.
I am not labeling this man a "woman beater" because of this incident. Did he beat her cuz she didn't want to go out, he beat her because his food wasn't properly prepared, did he beat her because she turned the tv up too loud??
The people passing judgement based on a short video showing NO violence are ridicoulous.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:30 PM ^
I don't think you have to be from "two different worlds" to understand that the woman can be the aggressor. Even if that is the case, unless the situation is life threatening then he has to act with a bit more character. I have been in the exact situation you describe, a 4 lb candle was thrown at my head, but all I did was pack my stuff and leave. I don't think anyone is automatically convicting the guy (at least I'm not) but there is no excuse, ever, to hit a woman. If you think otherwise then I feel sorry for you.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
I don't think she was "screaming victim" but even if it were as you describe it's still never okay to abuse a woman. Walk away like a real man.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
The fact that anyone would treat NFL RB vs. woman as a "mutual altercation" seems ludicrous to me. Unless she came at him with a f'ing trident, there is no reason for Rice to feel even remotely threatened physically. And yes, I get this is all accused and that video doesn't provide great detail.
