Sort of OT: Michigan-related baby names

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on November 15th, 2018 at 7:00 PM

Mgobrethren, I need your help. My wife has carried three children, and naming each of them was more difficult than the last. She is now carrying children numbers 4 & 5. They are a boy and a girl, and are due in January. We are really struggling to come up with names, which is stressful but also a great opportunity. I would really like some input on Michigan related names. Here's the catch: it has to be subtle. Woodson is too obvious. I suggested Fielding and she was "meh" on that idea.

Please help. The class of 2037 is counting on you.

Rose for your daughter and Paul for your son (first Wolverine to score a touchdown wearing a winged helmet - two actually to defeat the Spartans - Paul Kromer 1938)

Clearly, you have a number of good subtle possibilities:

- Tishiamanga (or maybe just Tim)

- Ali (for Hajji Sheik, but could even be the girl)

- Rose (middle name Bowl)

- Fritz

I named my son Mayz while watching a UM game and suggested it to my wife. She went for it. We just altered the spelling a bit. He’s almost a teen now and loves his name because it’s so unique.

Other ideas:

Brady

Webber

Rose

Goat (kidding, unless you go for it but then I’ll be resppnsible for your son’s depressive episodes in life)

Whatever name you end up with, just make sure to teach one kid NOT to tie his/her shoes and nickname “Shoelace.” That is standard protocol these days.

My oldest is named Carter for obvious reasons. Youngest boy got Alexander as middle name in reference to my grandfather and D. Alexander.

No UM connection in my daughters name, and never have any regrets.

You will love whatever names you pick. That is all that matters.

That’s awesome man congrats they are a blessing.  I have 4 myself on our last one my wife and I did not name him until the day we left the hospital.  We did make a list and chop it down to two or three final names.  We waited until he came out spent time with him and then picked.  That’s the best advice I can give write it down make a list and X out the ones that are a no go for either one of you. On a more serious note I what about bench and mason.

A lot depends on the last name to pair with the first names. Also the names of the other kiddos.

I'd go with Woodson and Wheatley. Won't seem obvious to their peers as both are already retired.

Thanks to Hoke, Brady is no longer feasible.

I knew some M fans name their child Derrick (first name) Alexander (middle name) during the early 90's.  Not sure what happened to that couple as they moved away and I have not heard from them in years.

I love the name Arbor Ann for a girl. My practice wife agreed that we could name our second child this if it was a girl. Our first daughters name is Lily so it stuck with a plant theme haha. Unbeknownst to me at the time, she was just a practice wife and no second child ever came about.

But congrats to you and the MGOwife!
