OT: Aaron Hernandez and Urban Meyer

The Boston Globe Spotlight Team is presenting a series on the background and downfall of Aaron Hernandez. Tonight’s Part 2 focuses on his time at Florida under Urban Meyer. A particularly disturbing dissection of Meyer’s Win-at-All-Costs  modus operandi. Well written and deserving of a read.

** posting from my phone and only my second OP. Many apologies if I do not embed the link properly.

One thing about the article particularly bothered me:
It kept alluding to football (and basketball) players providing access to an attorney if they encounter any issues with law enforcement as though that were a problem in itself (and the Boston Globe team was frustrated that the attorney in question wouldn't speak with them).

The article implies that there is something wrong  with that. I believe any person - young, old, athlete, regular student, working person, retiree, homeless person - should have immediate access to legal advice and assistance to protect their rights. That does not in any way indicate guilt. "If you've got nothing hide, you have nothing to worry about when talking to the police" turns out to actually be very bad  legal advice.

Much of this was covered in Patterson's book All American Murder, which is a tremendous read, perfect for a long flight or train.  Without St. Tebow to be the cover boy and to paper over the things being committed by Hernandez, Pouncey twins and several other "character" players, Pope Urban would've been done years ago.

Think about this scary thought.  Pryor and his other friends don't start trading gear for tats and cash, Tressel would've  still there.  The Pope had always said OSU, ND and Michigan were his dream jobs.  The Pope is likely still collecting from ESPN and available post Rich Rod.  YIKES!!!
