Preseason Coaches Poll: Michigan ranked #14

Submitted by Bambi on

In a break from all the Urban news, the pre-season coaches poll was released. Preseason polls are dumb, and the coaches poll is dumb, but here we are. Link.

Rankings of note:

1. Alabama

2. Clemson

3. OSU (votes made before Urban stuff came out)

4. Georgia

5. Oklahoma

7. Wisconsin

9. Penn St.

11. ND

12. MSU

13. Stanford

14. Michigan

No other B1G teams are ranked, but NW and Iowa are receiving votes

Hello Rogue friend. Crazy to have 5 B1G teams this high. I'm still kinda in the SEC dominates everything mindset for some reason. Glad to see the tides turning.

Although I don’t have much faith in pre-season polls, it might be worth noting that Michigan is the highest ranked team among those teams that weren’t previously ranked.  At 14th in the Amway Coaches Poll rankings, they’re ahead of previously unranked Florida State (19), West Virginia (20) and Texas (21).

I’d be interested in knowing where Michigan was ranked by the people who cast ballots for the seven Big Ten coaches who are members of the board of coaches who will be voting in the 2018 coaches poll and who voted in the pre-season poll – Jeff Brohm (Purdue), Mark Dantonio (Michigan State), D. J. Durkin (Maryland), P. J.  Fleck (Minnesota), James Franklin (Penn State), Scott Frost (Nebraska) and Urban Meyer (Ohio State).

I actually like ND being ranked ahead of us. If we lose to them, especially close, we'll like stay in the top 25, maybe top 20?

I really want to see how our conditioning program transfers to the field this year, especially in 4th quarter games. I foresee at least 4-5 games coming down to the last possession, maybe even OT.

I think it's a great sign that we're ranked 3 spots lower than ND, yet we opened at -1.5 favorites in South Bend.

I trust Vegas much more than I trust the coaches poll.

I like staying under the radar. But if we beat ND on the road, we will be a top 10 team. If we lose a close one I think we will be #20 and really be under the radar and sneak up and win the B1G.

Perfect. I wouldn't want it any other way. With 5 teams on our schedule ranked above us we better break our underdog streak and pull off some major upsets.
