Eagle and Wolverine parallels
For long-time MGoBlog readers who'd like a trip down memory lane and into the realm of hearsay and speculation (not to mention a fun distraction from yesterday's events), there's an interesting article on EMU in the DetNews today:

Of note:
EMU regent Jim Stapleton did not agree with the firing, saying English needed six years to succeed. He said English had one of the best coaching staffs in the MAC, men who won titles elsewhere.
“They did not get dumb overnight,” he said.

He also blamed former players for creating a negative vibe around the program.
“A lot of those guys fought against his hiring,” Stapleton said. “(English) had internal battles all the time. There was a culture of former players who did not want to see him succeed. … They never liked him.”

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Are these former players from the glory days of EMU football? Must be tough on them seeing how the program has fallen from the heights they knew.
Talk about nerve.

Where's Lllloyd Carr thru all of this? Not supporting Ron English, and certainly not supporting Brady Hoke.
His silence is telling...telling me that we need to get someone over to Willow Run airport ASAP to see who's getting off the CAW jet to interview!

The similarities are that both programs are in freefall. Well, EMU has already hit bottom...by then end of this year and a Pizza Bowl loss we might be there with them.

EMU's President wasn't visibly hammered during a halftime TV interview yesterday.

She was hammered at an alumni function last year and she got into trouble for that.

He is a reason EMU has so many issues.
