Where the hell is Carr?

If at this critical point in Michigan Football history (that's right, that's how important this is) Lloyd doesn't come out and defend what he claimed to "Love", he is a coward. It is one thing to say, I won't speak and interfere with the current coach but it is entirely another thing to not say a word in his defense. I am giving Lloyd a couple of days to come up with a well crafted statement, if not , he can eff himself. He will forever be LLLLLLoyd to me also.

and I have nothing at all against Lloyd, but the man does not appear to like anyone that would have been picked as coach. He apparently did not like Miles and he apparently does not like Rodriguez. I am sure he would have found something wrong with any new coach. I think Lloyd holds on to the past. He wanted one of his assistants to get the job. Now that there is no one left associated with Bo, it is like he wants nothing to do with the program. I also disagree about Lloyd speaking out. He could help end so much of the bashing if he came out and simply said that U of M was great under him and remains to be great under Rodriguez. I realize Lloyd is not involved with the program and does not know what is going on behind the scenes, but let’s be honest. None of the allegations brought against Rodriguez are truly deplorable. The allegations have been more of a personal attack on Rodriguez, than an indictment of the university. It would not kill Lloyd to stick his neck out a little bit to help out. He is not required to do so, of course but to me it is a classy thing to do.

OK, so if Lloyd Carr showed up to tell his recruits to STFU and suck it up in a press conference, that helps things? Him saying "I support the program" will make this disappear? I'm skeptical.

If you had read TOB's piece you would have read this:
It seems that all sense of accountability in Michigan circles died with Bo on that wretched day in November 2006. Since then, what's gone right? A loss to Ohio State with the title on the line, a loss to USC, a loss to Appalachian State, a loss to Oregon, another loss to Ohio State, a former Michigan player shooting his mouth off about how things operate on the academic side of things, sparking an extensive inquiry by an Ann Arbor newspaper, a complete mess of a coaching search that ends with the Michigan Man still in Louisiana and a group of people not ready to let that go, departure after departure being skewed by the media and other special interest groups as a renegade coach tearing down what Michigan stands for, a 3-9 season full of turmoil and pain, and now allegations of wrongdoing from a man desperate to get his name out there because his profession is a deadend and he's being backed by a newspaper desperate to keep its head above water with sensational headlines because it is quickly becoming obsolete and headed by extinction. You can accuse Rich Rodriguez of anything you want. None of the allegations from Rosenberg are going to stick. There will be no NCAA investigation at Michigan. There will be no sanctions, nothing. You can call him every name in the book, just know that you are also calling Tate Forcier's father Mike those names. You're also calling Michael Schofield's father Mike those names. You're calling Obi Ezeh's father those names. You can pass judgment on a man you have never met. Pass judgment on someone because of something agenda-driven people say. Pass judgment on someone because his methods don't match those of a man you hold up to an ideal no one could ever equal. I'm not making a political statement here (because I think both sides of the aisle can see the point I'm trying to make), but I find it horribly ironic and repulsive that in Ann Arbor, a haven for progressive, open-minded people, the one institution that stands tallest, Michigan Football, is poisoned with close-minded elitists who will not give this man a fair shake because he's not "one of them." There are always agendas. From all sides. And all people. One man could make this better. One man who I hope realizes that while this is a direct attack on Rodriguez, any damage done to him damages Michigan. If that is as sacred as it is made out to be, then it's time to speak out. Unless it turns out that this is not about "Michigan", and another agenda comes to light. I choose to reject that, because I view him as the rest of you do: a man of honor, of integrity. So I ask, with my hands outstretched, and I plead: when Michigan Football needs you, where are you, Coach Carr? As Bump Elliott once aided his successor, your great friend, will you rise and help your successor when he needs it?

that it would disappear, but to me it would help. I feel most of the attacks have been more of a personal nature against Rodriguez than an indictment against U of M. It would help to have someone as respected as Carr step up and back Rodriguez. I think it would remove some heat off of him. Of course winning, will do more good for Rodriguez and U of M than any statement from Carr could ever do in the court of public opinion.

Exactly. What would he even say? "Rich Rod runs a clean program and I support him"? Since he isn't running the team anymore, Lloyd's opinion of the program isn't going to swoon the press into changing their story. How would a statement from Lloyd help at all?

I agree with chitown, all Carr does is tell the so-called "Carr Faction" that they win. It tells the RichRod can't handle the program by himself. That's not what we need. We need those who can't take the change to get out as well. If Carr comes, it won't change anything. Those kids that left are gone and will talk all they want. Those who stayed, they were misrepresented in the first place. They want to be here. They want to do the right thing.

Lloyd is not required to do anything. But anyone who is the leader of something that they have invested their lives in, owes it to themselves to support it however they can. Lloyd was given a heros sendoff and is fondly remembered by all. He is a man of great integrity and his words, no matter how minimal would mean a great deal. He might have to wait to get the report info back from the Big Ten or Michigan. But when it is clear to do so, he needs to say something in support of RR. For God sake, clearly Rich needs some love and Lloyd at a minimum should call him.

Carr does not need to say anything. If he does anything, hopefully its behind the scenes, telling players to stay the course for Michigan and not let outside witch hunts get in the way. Whatever. A public statement just keeps the news cycle going. He may say something that we fans can latch on to, pump our fist over and say 'take that freep', but that just helps we fans. I dont care about we fans. I care about the players in the lockerrom and I am sure Lloyd is doing whatever he can to keep their heads up. Provided he bothers to look up from his copy of Riki-Tiki-Tavi. As for the O.P. who says he will alwyas be Lllloyd Carr, you stay classy you Michigan fan. Allegedly.

Has it occurred to you that maybe Lloyd hasn't said anything because Lloyd agrees with the allegations? Why is it that nobody here considers the possibility that M/RR actually may have done something wrong? Seriously.

JewofM

has Rodriguez done wrong? None of the allegations I have seen are anything more than personal attacks on Rodriguez. Who gives a damn if the team is doing extra hrs of practice. Yes it is not allowed, but who cares. The rest of the crap in the media is more about Rodriguez than it is about U of M. Nothing I have seen shocks me. For some reason people have just taken issue with Rodriguez as a person. I am sure that some would say that this reflects poorly on him as a person and why would he be attacked if he did not deserve it. I do not have the answer to these questions, but he is our coach and I will back him. He needs to be given a true chance to succeed.

Um the NCAA, recruits, their parents, current players, their parents, alumni and most of this board. Just about everyone above would say that if the pertinent allegations prove true it is bad for Michigan.

Then he writes a diary saying how he had held off on writing one until now. You held off since the 29th? It must have really been burning you up inside. I'm sure everyone can guess what percentage of his posts are in regards to this "scandal." This poster is not someone worth engaging in debate. This poster may well be Rosenberg himself. Seriously.

There's this, the lead sentence in his Bio: Lloyd Carr serves as Executive Vice President in DHR International’s Detroit office. Mr. Carr’s specialty area is in the sports practice. Fact is, guys, he's got another gig and speaking out about Michigan or even RR could be construed as unprofessional. Yes, I agree, he could, and I would love to hear that he did go into Schembechler and address the team and staff. But when that got out, he'd appear to be a meddler without anybody ever really knowing what he said to whom about what. Having said all that, if I worked for the phone company, I'd love to see his and RRs call records. I'd be shocked to find that they didn't communicate and I'm not buying the speculation that there's a rift between the two.

so sure whether Llyod was needed or not buuuuut with Henne stepping up and speaking to the fact that college athletes need to do more than the NCAA's required hours I think Carr's comments would help greatly. At the very least he could mention how much work players have to put in on an individual level to be great. And, of course, he could do this without ever mentioning RR or this current team. Which by the way, what does everyone at least think Carr's impressions of RR are?

I would just as soon he stay away from this for a few reasons. I know I'm probably going to get some negative points but here me out... I don't think Lloyd fostered a culture of leadership. There, I said it. Where is his coaching tree? Has he not spent more time "coaching" EMU since English is there in spite of his AD job at M? But deeper than that, and leaving the talent cupboard out of this, WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP ON THIS TEAM!? All of the Jrs and Srs left are Lloyd's recruits and this ship seems to have no rudder; and they're the ones who have "bought in". Give RR a couple years, and let this transition run its course and you will see a completely different program/culture.
