Senior Day Haiku 2012

A leaf blows in fall
Tasting each position once
Time to duck, Martinez

These days people who
are not Thomas Gordon say
"Get off of me, please"
Jordan Kovacs
A man from nowhere
is the safety blanket for
a hundred thousand
Kenny Demens
As Northwestern died
they must have thought "ouch" and
"my god, sweet mustache"

Sorry about things said
two years ago, low and mean
Mattison saves all
Brandin Hawthorne
We'll always have that
Purdue hash to hash zone drop
and a kickoff hold
Brandon Moore
Must be a good guy
to get Kramer's eighty-seven
time to make stories

A scientist of brains, yes
And blocker of sweeps

I had been in the desert for some time, lost and directionless. The sun was relentless. A deadly thirst stalked me. I had not accepted the grisly fate which awaited me but was powerless to change it.
On the fifth night—possibly the sixth—a breeze arose. It was cool and dewy. I savored it for a time, then step by step it led me home.

I have to wonder, how long will it be before we see this again in Maize and Blue?
Will we ever? I have my doubts. And it saddens me.

Every time I watch this video I just can't believe how quickly he accelerates at the 42ish yard line to get upfield. Just amazing. It brings a tear to my glass eye.

Man, this really sucks. Fuck. In many ways Denard was my Michigan experience. 2008 - 2010. I like RR unlike many here, but I also really like Denard and that is something most here have in common. What a great kid and what a terrific player.
I wished for more for him even though he had a successful playing career. I thought for sure he would be invited to NYC at some point - especially after that B1G offensive player of the year trophy as a sophppmore and first year starter.
Part of me wishes RR would have gotten a job right away and Denard could have followed him to the promised land of mesh handoffs and basketball on grass. He stayed though. In some ways I think he stayed for me personally. So I could tell my grandkids that the most dynamic running QB of all time played for my team, played for us.
I am going to miss his smile and his breakout runs and his kneel after a TD and his crazy dreds. Ugh... I feel like Johnny after LC and co. left.
Fuck.

To all seniors:
Thanks for your service.
You stayed through a regime change
To be Sugar champs.
To Kovacs:
Your last home contest.
Perhaps there will be one more

Brian:
I just got back from hunting (sorry Ghost of Yost but I did get an 8 point) and you probably wont see this but i just wanted you to know your poem for Denard truly brought tears to my eyes. And I think it perfectly captures your tagline this year too:
"This love's for Gentlemen only"
And there is nothing.....absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.

The Denard haiku makes me teary-eyed, a reaction that may or may not be intensified by the four beers I had at happy hour, but... man, I'm really going to miss watching him play Michigan football. A one-of-a-kind guy, a once-in-a-lifetime player.

Bravo Brian, simply bravo.
You never really think you could measure a player's impact on a program until you read it in a haiku. I also am afraid of a world without Denard.
