Regional Comcast Outage: SE MI
I'm hoping this saves some of my fellow mgobloggers from waiting on the phone for 1hr 23min as I did this morning. I just got off the phone with Comcast and they are experiencing a "major multi-city outage" in SE Michigan. I currently have no internet or television and due to the severity of the issue, the service rep has no timetable of the return of services.
Apparently it has something to do with the major lines and according to the rep, this happened overnight and they were just made aware this morning. The issue has the potential to keep services unavailable for multiple days, though they're "working very hard to restore services". There is nothing that can be done and when services are restored, they will just reappear.
My hopes are that this saves some of the mgomobile users from wasting their time as there's no other information to share. You should* receive a prorated credit for today's service outage.
So if you had plans to watch the game at home or have a bunch of friends over with a bunch of food you bought yesterday and have already started to cook in preparation of Gameday, the noon games, and of course our game [sigh], you might want to try a bar...well, one that doesn't use Comcast for their TV's, I guess.
Here's to hoping it's fixed within the next seven hours.

I know. It's the only provider wired to my building. I feel like this has something to do with the game being on BTN. Or Mark Dantonio. Or both.

that is why I upgraded to Directv. DTV is reliable, more HD channels, and more standard channels; all cheaper than Comcast.
I know I sound like a commercial but I had comcast for 20 years. Then I could not take it anymore. I switched to DTV and never looked back. DTV has the best customer service. If you call to complain about the Lions, they will give you 3 months of Showtime for your aggitation.
Switch to DTV today. Call 1-800-DIRECTV. I get to take my receiver with me to tailgates, vacation etc. DVR is awesome.

If you still have internet access and an HDMI cable then you're in luck. Log onto your account on xfinity.comcast.net. BTN is now available online. Plug your HDMI cable into your computer and hook it up to your tv. I am having people over and already made sure it would work about ten minutes ago. If you have those things then you're gold.

I've been swearing a lot as the bad weather has been messing with the reception. Nothing is perfect and I use Comcast for internet too (which I then will use to stream when Directv goes down).

readers for $10. If you are a techy then you can move the dish all around. There are Android apps now that let you find the sats so its so much easier.
My service only goes out for 2-3 minutes during the worst (40,000 foot) storms. I think I was out only once this year.

Sparty did it. STAEE grads want as few people as possible to see the beatdown they are going to get today, So, instead of vandalizing EL, they took it out on some major Comcast trunks.
This might be the most clever thing anyone from STAEE has ever done. Since they love to revise history, maybe they can come up with their own "alternate reality" where their "heroes" injure Denard early and they win by four touchdowns.
Or, they can simply say, "video or it didn't happen" after they sustain their thrashing.

Here in Romulus, we had no TV but we did have Internet and phone service. The TV service came back about 45 minutes ago for us. Hopefully, it is completely resolved soon for everyone.

Why would they need Comcast? Their residents all sit in the Club Level.

I have been as dissapointed with Time Warner as I was with Comcast previously. But I can't afford to pay for dish in addition to internet, so I think AT&T will be my next cable provider

I cut the TV cable with Charter and my problem was that they began blocking internet streaming MSNBC, ESPNs and BTN even though I have subscriptions to both.
There is another connection that is great (but doesn't get me BTN) and is not blocked on Charter internet: stream2watch.me. The resolution is excellent.
There is a lot of irritating adware, but here's how you deal with it:
- make your channel selection "live sports" or "live TV",
- only respond to the red text "click here to watch the stream,
- be patient while it sets it up,
- ignore the "you don't have the video app to watch it" and "download" messages,
- don't bother to try to close anything.
- wait until you hear the audio. You'll see that the ad will be concealing much of the video frame
- if you can find the long, solid red control bar on the right end, the full screen should obliterate the ad
- if there is no red bar, the click on the X that is somewhat below the upper right corner on the ad and it will go away.
I am now a happy fan.
