Was managing a team building a system for an electric utility

They had a 100K gate that automatically closed off the parking lot at night to protect their utility vehicles - one of my systems testers went home at midnight.  Forgot about the gate and plowed through it going 50 mph.

Needless to say 100K gate meets 30K rental car and nothing survived except my idiot tester (sheepishly unhurt)

Try to imagine my explanation of the situation to the client and then my boss for the project write-off :)

If a person is trying to get out of a parking garage and can't, it isn't exactly a case of  "wilfully (sic) and maliciously destroy or injure a parking entrance/exit gate arm the personal property of Republic Parking," as the charge says.

It's not like this was battery on a fellow student or sexual assault, as is often the case about sixty miles to the northwest.  I'm hoping it works out that Jerald runs a lot of steps this summer, and is able to make restitution.  Hopefully, he won't have a misdemeanor on his record when it is all over.

However, that should be his only "strike" if it is proven that he did, indeed, do what he is charged with.

I'm not exactly an "expert" here.  Is there a step below "misdemeanor" in Ann Arbor?

I wonder if he just sped straight through the thing and took off. I've always been slightly tempted to do that.

But seriously, I hope this gets sorted out.

get caught doing this. I remember during the school year I'd see the gate at the parking lot off of S Division broken at LEAST once a month.

As a real estate owner with parking garages supporting office/retail. Don't do it. You'll never get away with it. There is a camera that catches every license plate and we will always know who did it. Not worth the hassle and cost.

Okay, all he has to do is pay the fine and this whole thing will blow over. They sent the fine information to the wrong address, so he was completely unaware of the severity of the situation. No need to panic here, guys.
