Manny Harris should expect a call up
http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/prospect_watch_week_11_2012_02_06.html
The NBA season just passed the point where teams can now offer D-Leauge call ups 10-day contracts. NBA.com outlines the 10 players most likely to get called up, and Manny Harris is #1. Sounds like he's back to healthy after his weird foot injury this offseason.
10 for 10: Would have landed with Cavs; injury’s history; possible NBA starter.
It took a while – longer than optimists expected and far shorter than it could have – for Harris to get back to full speed (and strength/quickness/agility/accuracy/playmakerosity) after coming back from a foot injury that held him out of NBA training camp. But after back-to-back 21-point performances against the top team in the NBA D-League last week – including one that featured 14 rebounds (the other saw him bring down 7) – while logging more than 36 minutes in both, Harris looks to have answered all the remaining questions.

Nice work!

The Cavs just cut guard Michael Thompson so they now have room.

Not necessarily. They waived Thompson to bring Daniel Gibson back from injury. It doesn't look like he's quite ready and they'll go against the Heat short-handed tonight, but that spot isn't necessarily meant for Manny.
However, if Gibson's injury keeps him out longer they may call Manny up for a cameo.

Sorry for the basic question, but do the cavs still hold his rights? Could anyone be sent to the D league? I was under the impression that he was cut and was free to go anywhere.

team. Harris was cut and thus a free agent. Players on their rookie contract are eligible to be sent down to the d-league their first four years for development.

No the Cavs don't hold his rights any longer but they do have a vacancy on their roster now and they liked him when he was here. Interestingly enough Michael Thompson STARTED three games this past week before he was cut so Byron Scott is looking for something in his rotation he doesnt have (talent perhaps?).

i hope he doesn't get called up just to ride pine.

He does. The money is night and day and playing in the D League is not the goal. Bench or not that is where he wants to be.

NBA contract is 450K (obviously prorated for call-ups). NBA players also get 200 a day per diem and a host of other benifits.

i guess i should have been more specific. last year he didn't ride pine. he played solid minutes. i hope that he isn't relegated to the bench just b/c he was called up from the d-league.

Better to be on the bench in the NBA than in the D-league. There's a lot of value in practicing with an NBA team, and getting into games when he can. He'll get both more visibility and the perception that he is an NBA player.

for development. I would be interesting to see how he does with their affiliate. I really wish he was on a team like the Hornets where he would be a true play maker without a dominent wing scorer like Kobe. I think Morris just had bad luck with who selected him but hopefully he finds the right team at some point.

Glad to see he's doing well in the d-league. Hopefully he can breakthrough and earn a spot in a rotation somewhere!

I sure hope they don't get cold feet.

Well, you can't keep a guy like that on ice for too long.

Is he just workin the camera in that picture or does Manny actually have some muscle definition now? He looks like he finally filled out a bit.

When did the NBA strike end?
February 7th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
I see his stats are pretty dismal. Is he going to have a cup of coffee and be done?

His time with the Lakers is nearing an end.

I hope Manny can do something with his second chance in the NBA.
