Super Bowl Open Thread
Here's your MGoBlog Official Rooting Guide:
.
.
New York Giants |
New England Patriots |
|
---|---|---|
MVP Candidates | David Baas and Mario Manningham, plus RBs coach Jerald Ingram and Asst. (to the) Linebackers coach Jim Herrmann | Tom Brady and Zoltan Mesko, plus Mallett if you count him. |
Known Buckeye Associates | Jake Ballard (TE) and Jim Cordle (backup to Baas) | DL Coach Pepper Johnson (played under Earl Bruce). |
Spartans Charitably Employed | Greg Jones (backup MLB) and Devin Thomas (3rd string WR) | Brian Hoyer, but I don't count this against them because I find a Spartan as manservant to both Brady and Zoltan (srsly: he's listed as the Space Emperor's backup as PK holder!) totally acceptable. |
Suspected Domer Sympathizers | Justin Tuck (starting SDE) | Sergio Brown, a 3rd string safety |
Other known affiliations | The original Mara (current owner's grandpa) bought and disbanded the Detroit Wolverines (NFL) in 1929 just so he could have Benny Friedman | Kirk Ferentz, Nick Saban, and Charlie Weiss all served as asst. coaches under Belicheck at one time. OC Bill O'Brien will become Penn State's new Head Zook after game. |
Sorry to have taken over M-Wolverine's thread. I planned to have this go up at 5:30 and he beat me to it. Here's his original post:
Less than an hour away. Should be a good game. The commercials. The halftime show featuring someone steering her kid to Michigan. Brady, Zoltan and Mallett vs. Manningham, Baas and Herrmann. I'll be rooting for Brady to win his fourth, and get to the arguably greatest player/QB of all time level, so we can say THAT GUY came from Michigan. (And my general stance of rooting against Mannings). But if you're a diehard Giants fan, no problem. Just remember your team has twice as many Spartans as the Pats. ;-) Enjoy the game, the food, the family, friends, and fun!

He really is a goob. But I'm pretty much done with the NFL (outside of the Lions and following UofM guys) because the officiating is horrendous. It's almost as bad as the NBA, where I only follow the Pistons and the UofM guys.

Manningham definitely should have caught that ball inbounds.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
Manningham deserves that play after having his head in his ass in the pregame.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
Now the Giants are shooting themselves in the foot. Not nearly as bad as the Pats in the first half, though.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
I like how Collinsworth criticized Manningham for not giving enough cushion on the sideline but neglected to point out that Manning through the ball right on the sideline and the safety was right there. Manningham still should have gotten both feet in, but if they runn that route more inside, it's picked off.
Pats finally catch a break in what should have been PI on Moore
February 5th, 2012 at 9:24 PM ^
lol Giants shooting themselves in the foot you mean like Plaxico.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
I definitely enjoyed that Kia commercial but driving a Kia does not make you manly.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
Seems like since the first drive the Giants move the ball well until the Pats 30/40 yard line area and finally get stopped. It's like a "bend but don't break" defense is actually kind of working.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
Pats have been doing it all season. That's why they're 31st in the league in yards allowed, but 15th in points allowed.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:30 PM ^
I'm just surprised it's working at the Super Bowl against Eli and the Giants passing attack, it's not like Denver and Baltimore had prolific offenses.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
The Giants are dropping like flys.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
Didn't really care for the Samsung Galaxy commercial, but I miss the hell out of The Darkness. So good.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:30 PM ^
They run that play so often, I can't believe it works so well.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:30 PM ^
gotta haul that in.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
I can't believe he dropped it.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
Brady's receivers let him down on that drive. Coulda put the game away with a TD
February 5th, 2012 at 9:32 PM ^
Well if I was a betting man I would say Welker just cost the Pats the game.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
Mario makes a huge grab
February 5th, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
It all comes down to this drive and maybe a rebuttal
February 5th, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
did he fade that one too much also?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
That was a great throw by Manning to Manningham.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:34 PM ^
a catch
February 5th, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
for the Giants.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
Manningham going off on this drive
February 5th, 2012 at 9:40 PM ^
from MICHIGAN is stealing the show... but I want Brady to win!!!
February 5th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
Maybe the Pats should just let the Giants score a TD
February 5th, 2012 at 9:43 PM ^
This is dumb. The Giants will just run three times and kick the field goal. Game over, Giants.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:44 PM ^
you called it
February 5th, 2012 at 9:43 PM ^
So 1 minute left, 2 timeouts, up by 2 and the ball is on you're Goalline. Man I'm glad I'm only a Armchair QB/Coach
February 5th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 9:44 PM ^
He wanted to go down but he couldn't?!
February 5th, 2012 at 9:44 PM ^
Smart move by the Pats
February 5th, 2012 at 9:44 PM ^
Big man couldn't stop himself from scoring.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
If Brady pulls this off . . . Greatest of All Time.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
Make him pay. Then they have to ask Bradshaw, what was going through your head?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
That's the right call there. Reminds me of a couple years ago during the Broncos-Packers game when a similar situation popped up.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
The Patriots should just let them run it in and score now, so that they have one timeone remaining and start the drive with almost a minute.
-Chet
February 5th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
Brady is the GOAT if he pulls this off.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
Why didn't the Pats let him score on the previous play? They could have saved a timeout.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
If Brady completes this.....easily cements him as The Greatest Super Bowl QB
February 5th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
If the Giants just wanted to run the clock why didn't they just take the knee? Seems easier than telling your tail back to just fall over at the one.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!
February 5th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
Holy shit.....can't ask for a worse way to start
February 5th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
Patriots WRs are killing this drive. Manning has been bailed out by his WRs while Brady's are killing him.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:25 PM ^
Like someone else said- they need to draft Big Play Hemingway! or at least some receivers who can catch the ball when the pressure is on.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
So uhhh, when do the Pats receivers show up
February 5th, 2012 at 9:49 PM ^
Wow....those Receivers owe Brady like 5 houses to make up for screwing up that bad
February 5th, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
Not dead yet!
February 5th, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
30 seconds and 4 downs late
