Michigan back in the top 10
Michigan #10 in the latest coaches poll. First time in the top 10 since the horror.
Also: Wisconsin jumps stanford to #4, Nebraska stays at #14, Illini #15, Sparty # 19, and Penn state breaks in at #25

And in sports, and particularly college football, that's not the case. Some years a number ten team might have the talent level of a team that would finish much lower if there were more great teams. Other years the number ten team could be really good if there are a lot of great teams. This year you have LSU & Bama, then Stanford and Wisconsin and Oklahoma, then pretty much everybody else. There aren't ten great teams. So your "look" test has to be on a sliding scale.

Some of you guys make me sick. You fucking pussies.

Yeah, I'm sick of people saying, "wait until next game". If you wait until we beat State to get on the bandwagon, what kind of fan are you? We just came through the gut check moment. Down ten on the road, our defense looking like last year's, and with Denard off his game, throwing three interceptions, we just came out and made a huge 28-0 statement that this is not 2010, that this team has flaws and problems, but our coaches and players can find ways to overcome them. If you are waiting until after next week to decide if this team is good, until after we win what will be quite possibly our toughest game of the season, then you really are completely unwilling to get invested in this team until it has already paid out. That's no fun. Heck, there are people still projecting 8-4 when we're 6-0 and still have Purdue to play.
What a bunch of cowards.

Nobody's saying wait until next week to be excited and supportive. They're saying wait until next week to determine whether a high ranking is justified. Given the past three seasons, the sentiment is a reasonable one. So chill on the Adderall, dude.

get over the past three seasons, it's a blink of the eye in the glorious history of michigan football. i'm sick of seeing our own fans selling this team short, michigan fans should be expecting a conference championship every year, and we are right on track to get it this year. we should be ranked higher than top 10 right now and certainly will be higher by season's end, the only team with a shot of beating us is wiscy, and i'm betting we'll beat them

We're capable of being a better team, but the problem is there are few really great teams this year.
I'm thinking we can live up to the hype with continuous improvement and a little luck.

this weekend and then we can start to believe this stuff. Until then it just doesn't matter.

The Sparty message boards are on melt down alert. First it was WMU that would beat us, then ND, then SDSU, then Northwestern and they're pissed off that we're undefeated.

I love this debate every week the rankings come out. Looking forward to having it again next week.

Kind of weird that Wisky jumps Stanford when Stanford wins big and Wisky doesn't even play.

Wisconsin's opponents went 4-1; Stanford's went 2-2 against weak opposition (close wins over FIU and Washington St., one of the losses was to Oregon St.).

It's still hard to gauge how good Michigan is. The competition up till now just hasn't been great. NW is 2-3 and last night's game was essentially at a neutral site. The MSU game, more than the others, will provide the most solid measuring-stick.

Were saying in 1997 "we didn't look really dominant vs. Washington State...they should vote for Nebraska instead". All fanbases are crazy, but are there any mote self-loathing than Michigan's?
October 9th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
I live with a die hard LSU fan, born in Louisiana and raised like it... He literally thinks they will lose every game they play

Steelers fans are pure nonsense. They think Rothlesberger sucks just like they hated Bradshaw. If this sounds insane to you then you havent been around Steelers fans. They can be up 21 in the Superbowl with 60 seconds to play and they will be even more self-loathing because they dread epic fail.

Haha right on superstringer. Steelers fans are the worst. I live in western pa and last week all I heard was how awful Big Ben is, and now after throwing 5 tds, they think hes Tom Brady. They are the absoulte worst fanbase of any sport.

Am I missing something here? What has Michigan State done that has everyone so impressed that they are our proving ground? They lost handily to the the only common opponent and havent played anyone else. If you want to count ohio led by Bauserman as a tough game ok but they still only won that barn burner 10-7. I feel we are ranked about right for now. If you are gonna be a skeptic thats fine but I dont know how MSU game will prove or disprove anything. I get its a rivalry game and thats great but beating them doesn't suddenly justify anything. We are top 10 enjoy it. We will still be top ten when we beat MSU....Hail

i was under the impression they had one of the top ranked D's out there, is that wrong?
That's why I have them as the barometer of our season. Win and I don't see many reasons why we don't the season as either conference champ or runner up with a 10-2 or 11-1 record.
Till then, I'm not sold.

defense too. I'm liking the change.
