I wonder if Pioneer will make any adjustments.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
Makes sense, a full day of tailgating after all this rain would do A LOT of damage to the course. It is going to be really tough to find parking though...
September 9th, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
FWIW, someone on Rivals just posted this (15 minutes ago):
The Ann Arbor Golf Course is not closed tomorrow. Just got off the phone with the events director and she said as of now it is open to the public. We will make an announcement on the sports radio stations tomorrow morning if it is closed.
As of now, it is open to the public for tomorrow.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:41 PM ^
but only to members and ppl with a ticket. I assume this is to limit the number of ppl tearing up the course.
September 9th, 2011 at 3:20 PM ^
Is this ticket the ones that you can get on park n party? I hope so cause then I have nothing to worry about.
EDIT: I just called park n party, and they said if you did a reservation through them you can get in. So i'll be enjoying the AAGOC tomorrow!
September 9th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
I've been trying for a while and no one is answering..probably swamped with calls now! thanks for the tip though.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:38 PM ^
If anyone is going to get drunk and do stupid things on the golf course after dark, it's going to be members: not the "great unwashed."
September 9th, 2011 at 1:42 PM ^
734-663-4044 and press 5...they are closed to the public. Members only
September 9th, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
Members and people with tickets to the game. Just got off the phone with them.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
Is the UMGC closed as well?
September 9th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
I was told yes but I haven't been able to confirm with the UMGC themselves. I heaqrd they were going to close due to the rain from an employee of the UM security.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
I just got off the phone with the ticket office and the gentleman there said that the email they had, said they would make a Saturday morning decision.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:45 PM ^
Thats going to make parking on private lots pretty difficult to nab.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
Price for parking, just went up.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
I still lived at 1219 S. State. $50 a spot.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
What the hell are they thinking?!!? It is giong to be an absolute mess down there
September 9th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
I'm assuming this is straight cost-benefit. They won't nearly pull in enough money from one football game to cover the repair costs of parking thousands of cars on a water-logged course.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
so its 50 bucks a car, and they claim they can hold over 2000 cars. thats $100,000. do they expect to make $100,000 on golf the rest of the year?
September 9th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
The Men's Golf Team is hosting a big tournament there on Monday and Tuesday.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
but it's only 9 holes. why would they do that? and why wouldn't it be the UM course?
September 9th, 2011 at 2:14 PM ^
The tournament is on the UofM course which, without any confirmation, has also been rumored to be closed tomorrow. I was just trying to give another reason why they would close the course. It is first and foremost one of the nicest courses in the US and recently rated as one of the top 30 College courses in the Country (along with Radrick Farms).
September 9th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
It;s a gorgeous course. That's why I wondered why they would play at AAGO. I'm picking up what you're laying down now.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
Golf revenue isn't the problem, it's resodding plus labor.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
I sure hope pioneer says the hell with it and opens early.
September 9th, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
2 years ago against Iowa it was raining all day before and early morning. Word was they were not going to open the courses up but I was lined up in the morning along with other cars and as scheduled they opened everything up. As mentioned above, it sounds correct that they make their decision earlier to game time. Sun should pop up today!
September 9th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
So this throws a massive wrench into things...
When does Ann Arbor Pioneer open? I have seen 12:00 from the press release, but was also told it would open at 7:30 at the normal time.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
I just called the University GC and it will be "morning decision" as to whether or not they will be open for tailgating tomorrow. It will be announced on the radio stations listed on MGoBlue.com and will be a strict noon open if they decide to open the golf course.
I also talked to a woman at Pioneer who said that the cops are the ones trying to prevent them from allowing parking tomorrow. Her advice to me was to get my car on the lot sometime around 6 AM (yes, 6 AM) provided they are open to park tomorrow.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
Thanks Lloyd.

September 9th, 2011 at 3:09 PM ^
Why would the guy lie to me? He was pretty clear in the info that he passed along, unless they are blatantly misleading people.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
You're like the TomVH of parking.
September 9th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
I'm eagerly awaiting a cryptic tweet late tonight about the parking situation.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
RE: Pioneer telling people to show up early, it's this kind of fly-by-night, wink-wink stuff flying around that will make tomorrow a total cluster, if anything does.
September 9th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
to prevent parking at pioneer?
September 9th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
clusterfuck engage
September 9th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
SO many different mixed stories on whether it is open or not, just close the thread
September 9th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
I have never parked at Pioneer before but I have heard they are extremly tough on drinking there bc its public school property. Anyone ran into this before?
September 9th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
The fat guy from 97.1 always seems drunk.
September 9th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
You mean, there's only one drunken fat guy associated with 97.1?
September 9th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
ive parked at pioneer for years, yeah they say "no alcohol" but that is not the case at all. the beer thirty tailgate gathers a large group to shotgun beers every half hour all day long. ive never seen anyone even trying to hide the fact that they are drinking. its a pretty good time over there.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
Why would they put that message on their phone service if they still don't know if the course will be open or closed.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:21 PM ^
There's enough time to park in Ypsi and walk to the game.
/s
September 9th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Great idea. UM fans should tailgate in Ryanearson's parking lot, generate some buzz for the Eastern-Alabama St. game, then take the conveniently (/s) scheduled public transport to Ann Arbor before kickoff at the Big House. It's win-win for Ypsi/EMU.
September 9th, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
It says those with tickets? Can you pre-purchase a single game "ticket" to park?? This is going to be a mess now...
September 9th, 2011 at 2:30 PM ^
September 9th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
I just checked UM official parking and traffic site and it is saying the gulf course will be open. Everyone probably should wait until a verifiable announcement is made before working on alternative plans.

The gulf coast of panama. The golf course is closed.
