stadium scoreboard MICHIGAN banner 815am eastern
installing the MICHIGAN banner on the scoreboard right now 815am eastern
This is like watching paint dry...wake me when its over
I will salute that
Quick, they're putting the "igan" part of it on now!
that speakers will be on the sides. Let the debate end
Massive! That screen is much larger than I thought it was going to be. Pretty sick.
Though I am sure we would like your girlfriend more than we will like you.
That is what your girlfriend said to me last night. Boom Michigan'd
You will be able to check the score from your front porch in South Bend :)
I'm really curious to know what the back of the scoreboards is going to look like. I hope they do it up classy.
Need MORE $$$$ for this project. Welcome to Stubhub, Dominos, Arbys Stadium, brought to you by Motts Hospital /s
I know this is /s but why would Mott's spend the money to advertise on the scoreboard? And if they did for some reason I would be okay with it because it's a part of the university.
/overly sensitive this am
I really hope they tie in some brick on the back to flow with the rest of the structure. I highly doubt that will happen (if it can happen).
Sorry, but I just can't see that looking good. All the brick is on the side towers, meaning that brick on the back of the scoreboard would be out all by itself amid metal and concrete. Just imagine it on the back of the old scoreboards...
It would look like a brick square suspended high above the ground.... quite odd.
I agree now. I for some reason envisioned the brick being closer to the scoreboard. I think that would look shitty.
in a few different threads.
I wonder if there are going to be any "backs" at all.
Texas' Godzillatron just has a walkway/scaffolding appearance.
Is there even going to be a plain flat surface on the back-sides of our scoreboards?
Without doubt. Of course there will be a back. I expect a simple, dark blue surface with a maize block M.
Having huge block end Ms serving as bookends for the stadium will have a great visual effect for those driving north or south by the stadium on main street (something that will be happening frequently on gameday with people coming in from 94 and 23).
Besides your desire to have something to complain about, what would even hint at the possibility that there would not be backs? The old ones had backs. There is nothing about these that suggests they will not have backs. Your approach to current Michigan Football is really tired. It must take a lot of energy to be a fan of something you only seek to criticize.
Here's a picture of the back of Godzillatron:
I didn't predict anything; I didn't say whether there would be a back or not. I just asked the question whether there would be a back or not. I have not seen any design proposal or drawing. I think it is a reasonable question, especially when I did not predict an answer.
Redacted: On second thought, I'm complaining about Section 1 complaining, which is no better.
I just drove by the stadium, and yes, it appears they will place a blue backing on the scoreboard and I'm assuming it will have a block M on it. There is a "small" section up on the back of it right now.
that once the installation is complete, they at least drop the extra money to go for the elite digital tier of channels. Cable HD is a rip-off, but if you're gonna spend that kinda money on a TV you might as well go all in, right?
Here come's "STAD"
The "STAD" is going in right now! Intense viewing!
Oh the off season, watching the "STAD" going onto the scoreboard is the best football related thing on the internet right now.....
Here comes the IUM!
MICHIGAN STADIUM!
as the sides of the board look like prime locations for advertisements and I can't imagine what else they would put there.
If it says 'GO WOLVERINES' I might get pissed.
Why? I dont get this mentality. What's wrong with a display of school spirit? Isn't that what this is all about? Or do you think that is too beneath Michigan? I am guessing you don't like the cheerleaders either?
Are you joking me? Who says 'GO WOLVERINES!'? It's GO BLUE.
I never really thought about it, but you're right. The Wolverine does not feature prominently in many of our chants or fight songs.
Seriously? Because one verbalizes "Go Blue" (read: chants, shouts, sings) one cant use "Go Wolverines" in written typeface? That's a pretty dumb rule. It's institutional in college sports to put "Go" in front of the name of the school or mascot. Dont get me wrong - I like "Go Blue" best. But I dont see a problem with "Go Wolverines", unless I just want something to complain about. What would be coolest is if one said "Go Blue" and the other said "Go Wolverines".
I like the idea of a non-permanent or static display, but what do you think the purpose would be? It would only seem to make sense if it is something that the larger displays wont display themselves. Are you thinking game stats? That makes sense, but why not just show that in the larger screen?
[Sarcasm warning. I get it; what could be more innocuous, and less offensive, than "cheerleaders?" In the case of Michigan, however, that's an interesting historical issue. I felt I had to add this warning, even though I wasn't being sarcastic below, because I realized that there's a whole generation of new fans who don't remember the old cheerleading squad, the trampolines, and the flips off the old wall for each score...]
At least, I don't like the three groups of like 24 cheerleaders or whatever it is. Yell leaders, cheerleaders, dance team whatever. I liked the small group of all-male gymnasts and divers. Those guys were real athletes. They were part of what made Michigan different. They were their own, unique, special show. But of course, in this day and age, Title IX/feminism/equality could never leave something like that alone.
Go back to the other threads where the initial renderings were posted to see what the sides will look like.
Sure there won't be ads this year or maybe next. But the comment "those sides look like prime space for advertising" is still correct.
I have no doubt in my mind that before the end of his tenure Brandon will have ads on those boards.
I imagine the sides will hold speakers with the mesh covering that was used to cover the speakers at the north end of the old scoreboard.
That makes a lot of sense to me. I was wondering what they were going to do with that given they just added the speaker to the one side like two years ago - rather than on the press box.
Hopefully the lettering is the same color as the on field lettering.
It's not bad; it's just not very creative or exciting. Like the endzone lettering. Boring. Looks like any other generic team in football. OSU did a better job with their feldturf.
Boring? What the hell do you want? I think it looks clean.
...the old "Split M" logo. (Adopt Troy McClure voice.) You may remember me from such fonts as the very same Split M logo that had been on the back of the old North scoreboard, for years. (South endzone had the creatively-inserted light display in the split-bar.)
So that is "what the hell" I might have suggested, had anybody asked me...
Remember, the exciting of today is all too often the joke of tomorrow. I think what they used was perfect - and when I say "perfect", I mean "perfectly classy." And that is Michigan.
I've always loved the end zone lettering. That font style has been used since 1982, almost as long as I've been born. It's the classic Michigan font taken from the logo itself. I don't think there's anything boring about it.
It's certainly better than that font they used with the smaller end zone letters from 1978-1981.
