I might have a different…

I might have a different perspective since I'm a fan of the so called "Death Star". HA. I've been following Michigan football my whole life though and it just seems they don't develop their players the same way OSU does. I watched Joe Milton early this season and started wondering if he would be a different QB at a school like OSU/Clem who has clearly been developing QB's at a different level. Maybe I'm 100% off base, but I don't think of a guy like JT Barrett as being elite but more a product of good coaching and getting the most of his talent and leadership abilities. It just appears to be something that is severely lacking at a school like UM for quite some time now.

Couldn’t agree with you more…

Couldn’t agree with you more on every point. I admit I’m on a UM thread as an OSU fan. I’m certainly not attempting to pour salt on the wound. I have 2 friends who graduated from UM and have personally been in Ann Arbor 12-15 times in the past 20 years. I absolutely love it in Ann Arbor so I don’t have the same contempt for UM(except that last Saturday in November) ?. I’ve just never understood the entitlement regarding their football program. I am rooting for UM to take that next step. The Big 10 and the rivalry isn’t the same every year without you guys.

Yes! The sense of…

Yes! The sense of entitlement from UM fans is utterly confusing. Yes, they have the most wins of all time, but they also had an 11 year head start on OSU and have won 2 national titles since 1947 to OSU’s 7. OSU also leads the series 52-45-4 since 1919 so there’s that as well.

I admire UM’s commitment to academics, I genuinely do. But those commenting that OSU is a “semi-pro community college” dismisses the fact that US News and Report ranks OSU as the 17th best public university. Even great minds like John Bacon have acknowledged as much. They aren’t on par with UM, but this isn’t Frat House U like it was in my college days.

It comes down to recruiting and sending guys to the NFL. Schools like Bama, Clemson, OSU etc recruit at the highest level and consistently send 8 or more guys to the league every year. The kids now don’t care about playing for the Maize and Blue or Scarlet and Gray like in the old days. What school will best help me get to the league is their mindset. UM has a long road ahead of them. I don’t know if Harbaugh is the answer or not, or if someone else can make them relevant again. But whatever he’s doing isn’t working

My view So I'm coming from the perspective of an Ohio State fan. It's disheartening for me to see the state of the UM program. Brady Hoke seems like a nice enough guy, but he seems very disconnected to what's going on during the games. I make it a point to watch them every week and I can't believe they've been so irrelevant for the last 5-6 years except for Hoke's first year. Michigan needs to get back on top because this conference won't be relevant again until both Ohio St and UM are perennial powers like they've always been. It might seem weird coming from an O State fan(there are a few sane ones), but I have the utmost respect for the university, football tradition and everything they have meant to college football. It's time UM gets back on top and we can become the big 2 and little 8(or 10) again.
