He is growing on me

I will admit that Harbaugh was my first choice,.  However, the more I read about Hoke, the more excited I get about the hire.  I never liked the Miles, or other "hot" or "big name" coaches.  Just because you won with one team it does not promise you can do it again.

I think RR sort of proved this, although I think he would have won in the long run.  I just do not think he understood UM football.  Sure we have our "Michigan Man" thoughts, our hatred for OSU, ND and MSU, but understanding and embracing these is part of what makes a great coach.  Plus RR came with a lot of baggage, and continued to pile it on throughout his stay.

I like the fact that we have a coach that understands you HAVE to plan to beat OSU, ND and MSU every year, and that they are not "just another game."  I compared stats between UM and SDS from last year, and UM only topped them in Total yards (barely), Rushing Yards, and Total Offense (barely).  SDS was on top in Passing/Receptions, FG, Total Defense, and most other stats.  This is UM vs. SDS we are talking about here.  If he can do that at UM we'll be in good hands.

The big question is can he retain the talent he has, and make it work in some variation of his system.  My guess is that was in the contract this time.  We'll see if the "talent" believes him.  From what I have read, he can be convincing.

In summary, I am all in with the hire.  I feel better about this one then I did three years ago.

GO FREAKING BLUE!!!

Why would DB consult LM on

Why would DB consult LM on other canidates for the position?  What makes him so qualified to offer UM advice?  Just because it is his alma mater?  I do not think it would be worth the head ache for LM if it was just to ask for advice.  You already see how stressed and uncomfortable this whole thing is making LM.  Plus there are plenty of people that could verify/suggest other people for the postion.

He is a serious canidate for a reason.  His connections to UM, his recruiting ability, and his abiltiy to coach football.  All really good reasons.

The question now is why would he leave LSU now?  His team will finish top 10 in BCS this year, a great recruiting class, and they are already being predicted as a Preseason top 5 team next year.

I agree

I agree all the way on this one.  I love the old UM style, and long for the glory days.  I will admit that I was ready for LC to move on, because he seemed to be going through the motions.  We need someone with a little more fire in them, but we did not need to tear down everything that we built over the past 30+ years.  Things were working okay, and just needed a spark.

I thought RR was a panic hire.  I did not believe it would work out from the start, but said I would back him 100%, and hoped he proved me wrong.

I like and hate the LM talk.  He knows what UM is all about, and I think he would get our program back on track.  I don't like the fact that he is pushing 60 yrs. old, and we could be back in the coaching search in 5-10 years.

Wouldn't it be nice though if you brought in LM as the coach, and then bring in BH as your coordinator.  That way you have a coach that can use the weapons we have, and still knows UM football's history and rivals.  You also have a coach in waiting that could help to slowly transform your team back to the "Pro-style" that defined UM for so long.

It may be wishful thinking, but I have faith we will return.  I hope DB takes his time and makes the BEST decision for UM.
