So in other words... There…

So in other words... There is absolutely no reason for them to do it.

...and quite a few colleges have 1/2 your credit limits, and stringent credit review requirements.

OSU and MSU aren't peer institutions.

Not all athletes are LSA…
  1. Not all athletes are LSA.
  2. The university can't make LSA do it, so what is their incentive? They don't care whether sports teams are good.
"Michigan should have done…

"Michigan should have done so for Terrence Shannon"

Michigan can't do that. It's the purview of each individual school/college.

You have to convince LSA/CoE/etc. to make an exception - and the AD and Santa Ono have no power to force them.

They will have to incentivize colleges that already turn away 80% of those that, and hope. They have no power to affect change.

Michigan football fans need…

Michigan football fans need to understand that the entire athletic department could disappear tomorrow and it would have basically zero effect on the universities finances.

Well, it's literally illegal…

Well, it's literally illegal under state law to use NIL to attract players or for the university to be involved in paying NIL.

So given that the university isn't going to intentionally break the law... What is your solution?

He talked to players about…

He talked to players about the investigation after explicitly  being told not to do so.

It is absolutely a firing offense.

Last year he was #11 in the…

Last year he was #11 in the NFL under pressure.

Better than Mahomes, Josh Allen, Burrows, Stafford, Lamar Jackson...

"it was revealed Warde laid…

"it was revealed Warde laid down and refused to fight for Harbaugh "

Which is exactly what he should have done. Harbaugh left. He is persona non grata.

The university should do whatever is best for the university, no matter what it does to Harbaugh.

They don't exist for 9/10 of…

They don't exist for 9/10 of workers in the USA.

"Harbaugh's boss has to…

"Harbaugh's boss has to realize that the owner/manager/athletic director is not the reason the reason the football team is good. "

No, they don't.

"Employment agreements exist…

"Employment agreements exist in all fields of business "

About 11% of American employees have employment contracts.

About 89% are at will employees with no employment agreement at all.

"all you're doing by not…

"all you're doing by not granting an exception is harming an asset that you have decided brings value to the school.  "

What value does the football team being good bring to the college of Engineering, or LSA, or Ross that they should want to change their policies?

Remember - they already reject 75% of applicants because there are no spots. Increased applications provide no benefit.

"Michigan has a long line of…

"Michigan has a long line of successful WRs in the league. "

Huh?

2023: Nico Collins #23 in receptions, #8 in yards
2022: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2021: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2020:  No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2019: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2018: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2017: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2016: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2015: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category
2014: No Michigan receiver in top 25 of either category

...etc.

Tebow completed 64% of his…

Tebow completed 64% of his passes in HS, Orji completed 52%.

...but the townships aren't…

...but the townships aren't Ann Arbor. That is why I can afford to live in one.

Actual in Ann Arbor ain't California expensive, but it's like Portland expensive.

The townships or Ypsi? Can be cheap.

If players can get paid by…

If players can get paid by both the conference/school AND boosters - why wouldn't they?

Nope... even before NIL,…

Nope... even before NIL, coaches have had to glad-hand boosters to be successful. It's just part of being a college coach.

Injury redshirts have to be…

Injury redshirts have to be granted... so until he applies and the NCAA grants a waiver, he doesn't get an extra year for the injury.

"NBA - not so much as far as…

"NBA - not so much as far as I know, but they also have fewer players, higher salaries, and basically open tampering."

NBA has them. See: Joe Smith and the 1999-2000 Minnesota Timberwolves.

You have to take continuing…

You have to take continuing education classes related to your job function.

You can require employees to take classes related to their job. You can't make them take classes unrelated to their job.

That gets around Title IX,…

That gets around Title IX, but...

  1. You can't make them be students
  2. You can fire them
  3. It violates the mission of most public universities

If they are employees:The…

If they are employees:

  1. The University can fire them
  2. You can't make them be students
The analyses I've seen used…

The analyses I've seen used:

2,000+ pass attempts (equates to 3-5 years as a starter)
10,000+ yards passing (easily accomplished in 3-4 years as a starter)
100+ touchdown passes (mediocre starters should reach in 4-5 seasons as a starter)

No - it means that "velocity…

No - it means that "velocity" as measured at the combine has almost nothing to do with actual functional throwing strength.

Unless you think Bo Nix has a significantly stronger arm then Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.

"has anyone left and been…

"has anyone left and been better than who replaced them here at Michigan"

We started Vincent Gray and Gemon Green in the two years St. Juste was at Minnesota.

Hudson and St. Juste would…

Hudson and St. Juste would have.

"And.. how many QBs in this…

"And.. how many QBs in this draft can throw with greater velocity than JJ? "

Penix, Maye, and Williams have stronger arms than JJ.

JJ can make all the NFL throws with no issue though. The only QB drafted that I feel can't is Nix. There are several NFL throws he just can't make.

If you're betting based on…

If you're betting based on historical success rates - at least 3, and more likely 4-5 of the 6 will be busts.

It's a bit like recruiting…

It's a bit like recruiting stars... while it's not necessarily correct for a given player, it's generally correct in the aggregate.

Every QB not picked #1 has a greater than 50% chance of failing.

The number is slightly over 50% for the 1st round as a whole.

The number is 90%+ failures in the 6th round.

12 catches for 195 yards, 1…

12 catches for 195 yards, 1 TD playing wide receiver for South Carolina.

...and he's been doing reasonably well in track, including running a 10.12 100M.

He is not "coming off an ACL…

He is not "coming off an ACL" injury that happened in 2020.

Probably because Chris…

Probably because Chris Hutchinson never played in the pros.

Nope.Because even when they…

Nope.

Because even when they aren't playing the Lions - the Vikings winning is bad for the Lions, and the Vikings losing is good for the Lions.

If he had gone somewhere outside the division - I'd say "Good luck, except when you play the Lions"... since he is in the division it's "Hope you lose every game ever".

No. About half that.The #1…

No. About half that.

The #1 pick gets about $42 million.

For 2023:
No. 1: $41.2 million
No. 2: $39.4 million
No. 3: $38.2 million
No. 4: $36.9 million
No. 5: $34.5 million
No. 6: $30.4 million
No. 7: $27.02 million
No. 8: $23.7 million
No. 9: $23.5 million
No. 10: $22.6 million
No. 11: $21.2 million

Michigan can't get any…

Michigan can't get any players money.

Private NIL collectives can give current players money.

"However, can anyone name…

"However, can anyone name someone that left transferred out of our football program that actually became a star/big contributor somewhere else?"

James Hudson
Ben St. Juste
Aaron Lewis
Zach Charbonnet
Joe Milton
Chuck Filiaga

Guys with 60 credits or less…

Guys with 60 credits or less won't have issues.

Guys with more than 60 credits will only transfer 60 and that makes them run into "academic progress" issues.

1-2 years in college or grad transfers get in. 3rd+ year players can't transfer enough credits

Barrett was a 65% passer at…

Barrett was a 65% passer at 9 YPA as a freshman.

34TD to 10 INT... With 2,800 yards passing and 938 yards rushing.

" I really hope they stick…

" I really hope they stick to tradition on Thanksgiving with the throwback uniforms. Those should never go away."

Those should be the full time uniforms with no alternates.

Yeah... I highly doubt that…

Yeah... I highly doubt that.

I'd bet they just pretty much ignored FLSA, Title IX, and every other legal consideration and just said "Yay sportsball".

Those are the best.

...and do away with alternates. Just home and away.

Like the regular uniforms…

Like the regular uniforms hate the black.

Black ain't a Lions color. This everyone needs a black uniform reminds me of Teal in the 1990s.

Virginia law doesn't get to…

Virginia law doesn't get to override the FLSA in determining what defines "employees" and "independent contractors".

It WAS hot as hell that day…

It WAS hot as hell that day... and I got sunburned... and it wasn't included in the season ticket package, so we had to buy tickets.

"Any QB in the 1st round is…

"Any QB in the 1st round is a 50/50 proposition at best. "

Any QB at #1 is a 50/50 proposition. Any QB below the #1 pick is a worse than 50% success rate

JJ has more practice in an…

JJ has more practice in an NFL rushing offense, and way less in an NFL passing offense.

Michigan literally didn't even run half the routes in an NFL tree.

Based on historic stats -…

Based on historic stats - every QB other than Williams will bust, and Williams is 50/50.

Sure... But then they can't…

Sure... But then they can't require them to play football for their money.

They are either employees,…

They are either employees, or independent contractors... and:

'“independent contractor” refers to workers who, as a matter of economic reality, are not economically dependent on an employer for work and are in business for themselves.'

Criteria to be an independent contractor include - the opportunity for profit or loss, investment, permanency, control, whether the work is an integral part of the employer's business, and skill and initiative.

If you can't lose money doing it, and you don't have control of the details of the work - you aren't an independent contractor.

No, it's just put up or shut…

No, it's just put up or shut up time for AD's in Virginia.

Still illegal for universities in Michigan to pay high school players to attend.
