...and my middle son Connor after we went to welcome the team back to the Crisler Center.  Nice kid...he had no problem taking a picture with us because "Timmy's my ride so I have to wait for him."  He rode home with Hardaway Jr who had a throng of admirers waiting for autographs and pictures.

This...

...is a comment that I will frame and hang on the wall.  It says everything that is possible to say.

70 - 60 Michigan Wins

70 - 60 Michigan Wins

yaay.... Me too! And nearly doubled my mgopoints while at it. Game....blouses worked for me!
Thanks... ...and well done. Just wanted to say that your diary, above all other pieces about last night's game, provided me with a healthy perspective on this incarnation of the Michigan basketball team. I have to remind myself of the depth and breadth of the sheer misery of the decade of horror so that these bright spots shine ever brighter in relief.
Fran McCaffery BRI = 31%

Of course, I immediately thought of Fran McCaffery when the Bo Ryan index was brought up.  Not as high as I thought it would be.

They're all great shots...

...to be sure.  Can't really have too much of the Fab Five dunking over fools.  But, yeah, I believe the Webber over Ohio dude is the most quintessential "Game...blouses" pic (at least that I could find).

Game...blouses

They were kids...

...Darius Morris and Mitch McGary were just kids when the Fab Five was around, if that.  When they fell in love with Webber, they were innocent, and unaware of the greed and corruption in the real world.  They loved seeing those alley-oops, the precise passes, dunks and tournament wins.  They loved the players of the Fab Five and that factored into the decision to come play at UM.  In their minds, they're wearing the number of their childhood idol.

And to be honest, I was one of those kids too.  I know firsthand of the adoration that kids had for the Fab Five and while that is tarnished in my opinion, it still can't take away from the years of bliss that I felt watching those guys.  They were revolutionary and they were MY team.  It was unbelievable.

So anyways, where are we.  Fab Five is part of our history and we need to embrace the good and deal with the bad.  I think it would be good for the University and the Fab Five to find a good way to publicly come together and officially kick off the "healing process".  And yes, there are kids in Ohio who idolized Pryor and will choose to attend Ohio because of him in the future (along with Clarett, Woody, etc).  Deal with it, they're kids.

Not photoshop...

...Excel, so consider this your rough draft until a more talented photoshopper improves on this!

Look like... ...Unitas.
I thought...

...OSU because the sideline banner said: "....State University" and the opposing team was wearing grey jerseys.  I think that boils down to Ohio, but again, I'm not positive. What leads you to believe Indiana?

The last 360 dunk I recall...

...was Chris Webber.  I'm struggling to remember any details and can't substantiate with video evidence at this point, but I know he did it at some point in his Michigan career.

Edit: Found some clips on Youtube...looks like he did it at Ohio State, though not positive.  http://youtu.be/zQ9S-DjBrgo (start at 4:06)

Devastation..

Fascinating read...

...WOW...nice job on this diary.  I truly love these sorts of posts...where the OP has a theory or inkling and sets about to prove/disprove with tons of DATA.  Really well done, great writing/grammar and intelligent.

Here are some thoughts:

Obviously, WINNING is the most critical aspect of any ranking so to leave that out of your formula is probably what most people will harp on...howeva, I love where this is headed.

My suggestion would be to somehow weight the lead higher as the game progresses.  For instance, having the lead at the end of the 4th Qtr is worth more than having the lead in the beginning of the 4th Qtr and having the lead in the 3rd Qtr is worth more than having the lead in the 2nd Qtr.

Another thought is to weight the margin of the lead.  A 2 point lead is worth more than a 1 point lead, a 21pt lead is worth more than a 7pt lead, etc.

Finally, this was awesome, keep up the good work! GO BLUE!

Just beat me to it...

...pretty amazing.  Lynch doesn't quite "look" the part, but congrats to him...pretty impressive to break Denard's record and he still has ~1.5 games to go.

That would be big news...

...I'll take it today...anything to block out all the Domers and Buckeyes around me at work.

7-5...

Please help Yeoman...

...can you point me in the direction of the play-by-play records you mentioned from the Bentley Library?  I can't find the play-by-play records for historical games.

Edit: Yes, I found the play-by-plays after seeing your previous post.  Thanks a ton!

Highlighter yellow...

...unis.  Not gonna get lost at night with those things.

Jamie Dixon=...

...

Morgan...

...with a nice dive into the scorer's table.

Burke...

...has had a "Webber-like" physical transformation between his Freshman and Sophomore seasons.  Visibly stronger...love the dedication in the offseason.

Horford coming in...

...really like that dude.  Excited to see him get into his groove this season.

Who gives a shit...

...what Dixon is doing? Seriously, does anyone really, REALLY care what his reaction is to every play of the damn game.  Obviously and whole-heartedly NO.

Not to be disrespectful...

...but what's up with Akunne spelling Hardaway?

Stauskas...

...I've advocated for Stauskas to start in place of Vogrich.  Vogrich is the perfect 6th or 7th man to come off the bench and provide a spark.  Stauskas is simply too talented to not be on the floor most of the game.

Great question...

...I thought the same thing earlier this year.  Frank Martin voluntarily left the great gig he had going at Kansas State to become the next head coach at South Carolina.  I still don't understand that move, unless he simply likes the Southeast more than the Midwest.  He arelly doesn't have any ties to South Carolina at all...he was a high school basketball coach in Miami, but that's about it.

Do you think...

...Urban Meyer is driven crazy by the fact that his initials are UM?

Unfortunately that is not original, though I'll gladly pass it on to MGoBlog faithful...I can trace it back to a friend who works at Michigan who is good friends with Brian Griese.

Excellent...

...and well done.  I was hoping to see Denard's rushing domination in your charts...and here they are!

With the gift of hindsight in 10 or 20 years, Denard is the guy we'll be telling our kids and grandkids about.  His career is so amazing, it's extremely hard to appreciate to its fullest extent while we're still in the midst of it.  This guy is a once-in-a-lifetime type player.

Great reply...

...everything was spot on, until I got to the part about:

"I have to wonder if academic schedules would give schools pause..."

That's funny, in a sad kind of way.  This thing has absolutely ZERO to do with academics, student-athletes, integrity of whatever.  Seriously, man, this is about the money.

I really do like your reply as well; I think the 3 divisions with a 3-year rotation looks really good.  You'd play every school at least once every 3 years.

Orlando Pace...

...frickin steamroller.

Also, how has no one mentioned the omnipresent and omnipotent Kirk Herbstreit yet?

Oh, the pain...

...make it stop, please.  At first I saw the first line about the UMass game and I was like, "wait a minute, were we watching the same game?"....and then I was like, duh.  We have come a long way; I really hope we have a long time with Mattison.  I worry that he won't be around on the staff for many more years...it's just one of those recurring nightmares.  Or that insane situation where you wake up thinking you have to go to work, just to realize that it's 5:30am on Saturday.

25-18 Michigan

25-18 Michigan

1984...

...I was thinking the same thing.  Big Brother is watching!

I don't think...

...there's any doubt that college football is heading this way.  Adding another game simply means more money for EVERYONE.  TV revenue, conference networks, athletic departments, etc.  This will happen.

Enlightening to see...

...the Denard effect on interceptions.  The huge divergence from the mean from 2010-2012 is the proof in the pudding, as they say. (Not sure who says that or what it means though)

Howeva, in my opinion, this has been offset by the Average pass yards per attempt, QB Rating and TD passes during Denard's reign. (Not to mention WINS! Which, Michigan is 4th in the league from 2010-today with 26 wins.  State has 27, Ohio and Wisconsin lead the league with 29 wins.  So we're not too far off from the top of the conference.)

Another interesting chart would be to see Rush Yards per whatever (game, carry, season) for the QB position.  I bet we might see some domination there.

Amazing post...

...excellent work, one of my favorites of all time.  Well-researched...keep up the good work.

My one comment is that the dominance of Michigan and Ohio State is unbelievable, but really cool to see laid out in your post.  I guess I didn't realize how few times other teams would have made the championship game.

Jeff Tedford is now available...

...not sure if either school is looking to fire/hire this year, but that might be a good fit at either school.

I am...

...a bowl of spilled soup that spontaneously formed the shape of Michigan.  Technically I am one of the grains of rice, but I speak for the carrots, celery and tomatoes, however not for the sausage pieces...they are a weird bunch.

There aren't too many times...

...when my Adam's apple swells to unmanageable proportions threatening to block off my air supply while in the midst of a monumental dust storm, but you did it here, Brian:

"After, I walked down to the tunnel and watched him go, young and old alike reaching down for one last moment."

Well done!

Doesn't matter...

...just appreciate the picture.  While I agree it makes no sense relative to your post, I mean come on, Denard is an alien.

1000 times yes

Please, no ND in national title game.

BEAT OHIO!

Certainly...

...it would be beneficial for Oklahoma to lose (WVU) as well as Stanford (Oregon), Oregon St (Cal), and Texas (Thurs, TCU).  We already will jump two spots thanks to losses by Louisiana Tech and USC.  So officially, two down and five to go.

I second that question...

...as much as I'd like to see ND lose and miss out on the National Championship game, would it not improve our chances at a BCS at-large berth (assuming Nebraska wins out, of course)?  We have to remember not to follow in some other teams' footsteps...we can't hate our rival more than we love our own team, just doesn't make sense.  In other words, we should cheer for ND if it improves our shot at a BCS berth, no matter how much we hate them (assuming it would in fact help us...otherwise: to hell with Notre Dame.)

BEAT OHIO!

You compromised your own post...

...ND rolled Oklahoma (in Norman!), who has a pulse.

Here, here!...

...3 years of membership and 1 post...I can sense your passion here, and I totally agree with you.  In section 34, nobody stands until key moments, but I can tell you I'm a true fan like most others in the stadium.  I did my time in the student section 1997-2000, standing every second of every game.  Mgobluegirl and I take offense to the allegation!
