That was fantastic.  I was almost afraid to watch for a while, but I love how this team just never gave up!!  I'm ready to dance!

I've sort of the thought the media hasn't done him too many favors, either.  I mean, there's a lot that's gone wrong for RR, but few coaches are put on the hot seat by the media as much as he has, either.  Unfortunately, that doesn't justify anything.

Devin Gardner's redshirt

Devin Gardner's redshirt didn't get burned.  That's about the most positive thing I can say.

Also, isn't it Woolfolk, not "Woolfork"?

The tattoo sound pretty

The tattoo sound pretty awesome, too.  Pictures or it didn't happen?

I have to say, I think there

I have to say, I think there may be a few more exciting things that have happened in the south endzone, but I think it can be a lot more exciting and/or energizing sitting in the north.  I sat in the north endzone as a band member for four years, and have now sat in the south endzone for three games in the last two years, and have to say it's much quieter and less intense where I have been.  Not to say there aren't intense people there, but as a whole it's a very different atmosphere.  I've actually been chastized for yelling too loudly (NOT profanely - just loudly).  That was a damper.

I love our scary offense.

I love our scary offense.

Absolutely not.  But I have

Absolutely not.  But I have to admit, it was kind of nice being able to watch the Rose Bowl without having to watch USC in it.

I second the sangria.

I second the sangria.  Dominick's is an A2 classic.

That's pretty awesome.  I

That's pretty awesome.  I wish I had that kind of space to create my own Michigan cave.

Yeah, I kept hearing that and

Yeah, I kept hearing that and wondering where it was coming from.  A bit awkward in the press box.

Are his shoes tied in that picture?

Man, Ashley's is one of the things I miss most about Ann Arbor.  I haven't found anything like it in Pittsburgh yet... very sad.

Also a former band member

Also a former band member here.  I've heard the section publications have recently been banned by the band staff... not sure whether this is true or not.  Very disappointing if it is.

Maybe this is a stupid

Maybe this is a stupid question... but you can actually get a penalty for doing that??

I feel the same way to an

I feel the same way to an extent, but for me it's less that I talk to people who are mis-informed so much as to people who are un-informed.  Very frustrating, because these people consider themselves huge fans, yet usually don't have a clue about the stuff that's going on.

That was also my first

That was also my first reaction... feeling really bad for the kid.  But I agree with most everyone else - he needs a serious attitude adjustment, because we need him and we need him to be in it for THE TEAM THE TEAM THE TEAM and not just himself.

Clearly, Tate's having some

Clearly, Tate's having some difficulties adjusting to not being the clear starter for the team - who can blame him?  He was bred from a little kid to be a star quarterback, so whether or not he "deserves" it, he's only 19 and is certainly human.

That said, I think it would be a huge mistake for him to transfer, as well as a detriment to the team.  It's always important to have more than one quarterback you can depend on, and I'm hoping he sees the field a lot again this year.

It is pretty awesome.  It's

It is pretty awesome.  It's probably my favorite campus-side bar in A2, and it's still under-appreciated, so it's usually not over crowded like Charley's gets.

Correction:  SOME women don't

Correction:  SOME women don't get it.  I, on the other hand, am a woman who grew up a Michigan fan, spent four years in the band, and have been on the edge of my seat for every game for years.  I celebrate the wins and despair with the losses just as much as any man.  I am a woman who gets it.

That's true... wasn't really

That's true... wasn't really thinking of it that way.  I was thinking more just of the history between the two teams.

Based on what they were

Based on what they were saying tonight, I think Delaney's still really pulling for the 9 conference game idea.  It'll make things tougher for some teams, sure, but I think that will also help the conference look (and become) stronger in general.  Plus, that way we get to play teams in the other division much more often, which would be nice for matchups like Michigan-Penn State.

Definitely.  And anyone with

Definitely.  And anyone with a memory of 2005 should look forward to making some better memories of games vs. Nebraska!

Generally, I'm pretty happy

Generally, I'm pretty happy with this - and really glad that they've kept Michigan-Ohio State as the last game of the year.  However, I was a little unnerved by the fact everyone (including Delaney) kept hedging whether it was going to stay that way.  It sounds like after the next two years, they're going to reconsider the timing of these games... Sounds like we'll have to visit this ridiculous issue all over again.  Ugh.

I agree with this.  Those

I agree with this.  Those years having both Nebraska and Ohio State away are going to be tough - I'm glad they're at home right after each other next year rather than away right after each other.

That's interesting - didn't

That's interesting - didn't know that.  Thanks for the info.  I'd be interested in hearing from some modern-day fans whether they're aware of this, and how much they actually care about this rivalry.

The first thing I thought

The first thing I thought when I read that PSU-Nebraska is a protected rivalry was... what?  Most of those really don't make much sense to me.  Does anyone actually know how much of a rivalry PSU-Nebraska really is?

This is hilarious!  Very well

This is hilarious!  Very well thought-out.

Is there any bar around town

Is there any bar around town that people regularly meet up in to watch the game?  I'd love to go out and be social instead of staring at my crappy little tv at home, but I'm always worried whatever bar I go to won't have the game on because no one's interested in it.

Hey, I'm glad someone NOT

Hey, I'm glad someone NOT from the Grand Haven area knows about Old Boys!  Great little brewery, and very underappreciated.

Seriously.  Only in Ohio...

Seriously.  Only in Ohio...

One of the things I'm most

One of the things I'm most excited about with him is his attitude and work ethic.  With all the clouds surrounding Michigan football and the constant up and down summer we've had, not to mention the last two years, it'll be great to have even more guys on the team who are just constantly positive and working hard, no matter what's going on outside.

Staying out of town is

Staying out of town is definitely your best bet this late in the game.  Everything books up months in advance for football Saturdays, plus prices are often jacked up really high.  Try to find something in Dundee, Dexter, or another generally-close-outlying-area and that's probably your best bet.

For me, it's a tie between

For me, it's a tie between Penn State in 05 and Wisconsin in 08.  I was there for both.  In '05 I ended up on tv with a group of friends yelling back and forth with some Penn State people at the end of the game, and in '08 I remember thinking that I didn't know if I had ever heard the stadium that loud.  Both were great times... I hope the stadium gets that rocking more often with the new sound boost!

I'm in Pittsburgh, and I

I'm in Pittsburgh, and I actually don't know of any other Michigan fans here - it's pretty sad.  All Ohio State, Pitt, and Penn State fans.  I do know there is a very large contingent in Philadelphia though.  The Alumni Association rents out space in a bar every Saturday in downtown Philly for people to come and watch the game.

For the most part, that's

For the most part, that's fine with me.  I'd much rather have a constant competition between multiple good options than a couple freshmen and walk-ons who make the entire stadium cringe when they come on the field.

New Marching Music

You may or may not be aware/find it interesting that almost all of the music that is played by the MMB is adapted and arranged by the marching band director (Scott Boerma) and/or other marching band directors across the country - in a sense, it is being written "new", but just not original.  Marches in the more traditional sense are still written for the classical music arena, but this is simply not the kind of music that is played by most modern marching bands.  A large portion of the shows the MMB played in my day (and currently, as far as I know) come from suggestions from MMB members in the spring, which are then turned into themes and written by the director over the summer.  Just a little FYI.

Notre Dame has some clause in

Notre Dame has some clause in their contract with NBC which gets the band on TV... the ND band has at least one song on tv for almost every halftime.  I've always wondered why other schools with great(er) bands, like Michigan, don't try to get something like this.

It's hilarious and it's

It's hilarious and it's great.  I'll take football-related happiness wherever I can find it right about now.

Getting rid of little brother

Personally, I wouldn't want to get rid of a usual MSU game.  I would be sad about any scheme that got rid of the annual ND, OSU, and MSU games.  PSU would be sad to lose, too, but its less important to me than the other three.

Philly-Detroit While it may be that US Air is god-awful, I would actually be tempted to blame this on the Detroit-Philadelphia connection. My boyfriend and I spent a year and a half "commuting" to see each other between Ann Arbor and Philadelphia. Over that year and a half, we flew to visit each other about 10 times... 9 of those flights were either canceled because of weather (with clear blue skies all around), delayed by multiple hours so that we missed connections, or re-routed to another airport for no explainable reason. Basically, the flights (on ANY airline) between Detroit and Philadelphia are terrible.
Ralph or Gunderson Best professor has to be either Ralph Williams or Brenda Gunderson. Stats is NOT my strong point, but she made it bearable and even *gasp* enjoyable. Ralph Williams is amazing, but it's sad he's gone now. His classes were epic.
Mario/PSU I smiled a lot at the Penn State/Mario Manningham reference. Oh, what a game!
Finally... I'm glad we finally beat OSU! And it was a win when we really needed it, on top of it all. Hooray for new years and new beginnings!
Ridiculous? Is it just me, or does that sound completely ridiculous? I'm wondering whether this exclusion from federal funds extends to research grant money? If so, why on earth are they punishing University of Michigan researchers for the lack of a playoff in a conference, part of which the school has no control over?
Team? They actually have an American football team? I'm mildly impressed.
Banned from the stadium? I'm pretty sure they got banned from the stadium for quite a while. Same thing almost happened with Wisconsin's band a couple years back because of obnoxious/inappropriate behavior.
History U Chicago was historically in the Big Ten, but I actually think this goes against them. Their administration decided to pull out because of the undue focus on athletics over academics. I don't think that's changed, so I doubt their administration would change their mind about being in the Big Ten.
Giddiness I really love the giddiness on this page. It's a nice change from the doom-and-gloom and in-fighting that happens sometimes. It was about time for some good news!
Spread game I don't know if you missed the Capital One bowl a couple years ago, but we dominated Florida. Granted, it was still Carr and still a Carr system (read: old-school), but we ran multiple spread sets very effectively against them, on their home turf. Even with a group of players who never really focused on the spread, we beat them at it. I'm pretty sure that indicates we CAN win SEC-style games...
Not possible at Pitt... I think this is a somewhat-good idea, but it's completely impossible for Pitt. They're in the middle of the city, so there's absolutely no room for a new stadium there. All the land where the stadium was is now dedicated to a fantastic basketball arena. There's simply no land for a stadium on campus anymore.
