I inherited my Michigan fandom from my wife (alum) when I moved here in 2007. I still have fond memories of Chad Henne & company taking it to Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow's squad in the bowl game that season. (I apologize for the ensuing implosion of the team in the years that followed.)
You can thank service men and women without it turning into this weird national military fetish we have, but as a country we've gotten pretty bad at figuring out where that line is. How to tell the difference? Well, let's just say that an alternate jersey, replicas of which are sold for profit at a $120 price tag, are probably on the wrong side of that line.
I love Valenti's show and I'm unapologetic about it, the guy makes me laugh. I even listen to his podcast. I get why people here hate him and that's fine, I wouldn't attempt to convince you otherwise.
But yes, when he's forced to dump on MSU it is SO incredibly satisfying. Anytime MSU screws up I make sure I'm tuned in for twelve minutes of schadenfreude at the start of the show.
The second half of your post is pretty much where I'm at. Double digit win seasons with a nice bowl game seem to be the ceiling for the way we go about our business. I'm comfortable with that. It's easy to be jealous of the trophy cases the elite teams have, but I'd wager most of us wouldn't want to pay the cost.
The way things stand, we're going to have a lot of seasons like this where we rack up wins and then get our lights punched out (if not by OSU then in the playoffs. It's hard to imagine we wouldn't have gotten pancaked by Alabama the way Sparty did when they made it.)
0-4 against OSU and no B1G title are disappointing, especially considering how close we've been at times to avoiding that, but I'm not ready to go back to hiring the Rich Rods of the world. It would be nice to have a dedicated OC, but that's about it on the coaching side of things.
The wife and I watch Hard Knocks every year, we're unrepetant football junkies. I'm sure they'll probably clean up the coverage compared to HBO, but I'm looking forward to getting some insight into what practice & life are like for these guys.
ESPECIALLY against Toledo. I was there at the Big House when we got upset and I had the two biggest Rockets homers sitting right behind me the whole time. It was miserable, and I hate that team.
but I can't get enough of season 3 Twin Peaks. I couldn't disagree with you more regarding Cooper. I miss the old Coop as much as the next guy, but "Dougie" has had classic scene after classic scene ("HELLOOOOOOOO!") and Coop's doppleganger is incredibly menacing. What a performance!
As for the use of the rest of the original cast, I've found it somewhat hit or miss but there are some great moments:
- Jerry Horn lost in the woods - hilarious, awesome. (I. Am. Not. Your. Foot.)
- Andy, Lucy & Hawk's brainstorming session. "...is it about the bunny?!"
- Bobby seeing Laura Palmer's picture with the old theme music kicking in, and really everything Bobby does this season in general.
And so on and so on. Beyond the old characters though, Lynch is creating some of the most bizarre, memorable imagery and sound you'll ever see on television. Some of this stuff is so crazy it just gets seared into your brain, and the further I get from those episodes/scenes the more I appreciate them.
"This is the water, and this is the well. Drink full, and descend..."
It's not for everyone, but I love it. It's the most no-holds-barred creative thing on TV. It makes me laugh, it creeps out, it repeatedly makes me think "what the ___" but whatever mode it's in, it entertains.
There's still some entertainment to be had reading it even if you don't care about Draftageddon itself (I don't.) I think it's fine for the occasional self-indulgent bit of content to show up on an amazing, free, site like this. Especially during the off-season. We'll be in the thick of it a month and change from now, just hang in there!
I love this team and I wish the season would never end. The borderline NFL-level defense, the creativity and RB rotation on offense and, lately, our QB. Wilton is FEARLESS out there and makes hitting the deep ball look like a routine chore.
My wife and I watch every game together and we are savoring it.
is the reason I'll be sleeping soundly tonight. This has all the makings of a dogfight, give me the team that figures to get a huge boost in field position off of kickoffs and punt returns.

Yeah, I want no part of Vrabel returning to Columbus. I hope they hang onto Ryan Day and his fake tan / shoe polish beard.
Yeah, and you can add Washington, USC and Oregon to that list.
Punt-Counterpunt is the best, welcome back boys. Raj, you're a legend.
We'll have one in the league in a year or two.

Congrats to Chad on a great career!!
What thread are you reading? I don't see where either was suggested.

I'm pretty sure Raj just wants everyone to know The Truth.

You could remove all references to Larry Bird from your post and it would still be perfectly reasonable.
I'm guessing someone at "New England Picture" is a friend of his and he's doing that person a favor.

he would hit both when they zoomed in on his face. He was LOCKED IN!!
I'd have loved to be Iowa and own a win over Ohio State.
In retrospect, it would have been nice to have a dedicated WR coach for our super young receiving corps.
if they were going to brawl, the video doesn't show the part where it looks like it's going to get out of control, just a lot of trash talking.
Still, good on the adults there for each side to make sure it never got to that point.
#ChadTough GO BLUE!!
and boy do I miss him this year.
but it wouldn't let me. That would be a dream...
BEAT SPARTY!!!!!
"Sparty NO!!!" moment right there. My wife and I had a good laugh over that play.
"Bro, you didn't know we hired three Hawaiian translators? That's what sparked the NCAA's inquiry into Division 1 staff sizes."

as I'm still in preseason desperation mode for football content. I'll just multitask!
thank you for this link!
boy do we ever need the season to start.
is equal parts frustrating and hilarious.
and even his teammate gets up and is like "what the hell man?!"
He's just so straightforward and animated. Can't wait to get a look at the new defense on the field this year!
it would have been perfect. Everything comes full circle, etc etc, but nope. :(
I'll go with Preacher. It's stupid, but fun.

is already over! It was awesome. I'm sure you can stream it somehow through their site, or Hulu, or something.
The Expanse is way better than it has any right to be considering it's on SyFy.

I also can't wait for season 3 of Mr Robot.
you should definitely sit in the Sparty section. Godspeed.

doesn't appear to be working. I don't need it, just letting you know.
Can't wait to get my copy in the mail!
Hardcore!
Tremendous accomplishment, Bri! That is just awesome.
First time & looking forward to it.
I'm curious - Brian isn't the type to misspell "optimism" so what is the joke there?

(You guys are getting hosed. No other way to say it.)
and a healthy reminder that there are some things (no, really!) more important than football games. Go Larry, and Go Blue!!
teams that would be worse, but I hear you. He'd be miserable on Detroit's defense.

24-10 Michigan.
I lost it at "presumably redheaded." Thank you for making my morning w/this piece.
8-for-10 for 72yds passing and one TD
2 rushes for 22yds
Way to go, Jake!!!
with road games vs Michigan State, Iowa & Ohio State.
