Not quite

He listed a top 15 and we were on it. But unless he visits we have no shot and no visit has been set up yet.

Unless it's the CA bar...

Thats a whole different animal. Most states are only a couple days and you can even pass based on your MBE score alone, but CA is twice as difficult as most states, roughly 40% fail on avg.

Please NFL owners!

Stop paying these freaking criminals millions of dollars!!!! It should be against NFL bylaws to sign anyone with a felony, it sets a horrible example to our nations youth.

One problem

People who saw him recently say he's closer to 6'1 and 200pds... And his sparq scores in Oregon don't match what you listed. Just don't see him ever being big enough to play with his hand down in college.

Well, actually

Fatu would likely only block for Hopkins for a year, and Rawls for a couple. But I get your point.

I agree generally

But until we get those good football players you're talking about, it would help to have the current ones add some size and strength. Added size and strength can sometimes make up for a lack of talent in some facets of the game, and right now our talent level is mediocre overall.

We'll very likely take 2 DT's

There's no way we say no to any of: Shittu, Pipkins, or Obrien. Yes I know that what I just said could conceivably yield 3 DT's, but that could be the case. There's alot of flexibility between now and February, and those 3 DT's would be all be considered "find a spot" type recruits given the giant question mark at that position in 2012 and 2013.

If Kalis commits, the coaches may be done with OL; and the RB, QB, WR positions could see anywhere from 1-5 guys total, which would greatly impact the other spots.

But all that being said, there's nothing more important for the coaches at this point in recruiting, than to find a WR or two and a DT or two, who can immediately contribute as true freshman.

I would think we'd take 3 DT's if it were those 3

With the switch to the 4-3, we need more DT' s since Martin will graduate and no other DT's on the roster are proven. In fact, Aziz, Obrien, and Pipkins could arguably be our top 3 DT's next year along with Big Will. I'd rather take those 3 this year than a toss in QB or a FB or a 6th DE.

JAKE FISHER

Come on down buddy!!! I know someone from your family is reading this. We all forgive you and welcome you with open arms. We assume you'd prefer playing in a bowl game during your career so we'll keep a spot open for ya! Everyone makes mistakes...

Agreed

I concur

To be fair

The fanbases that typically talk about how OL rankings are hard to predict are the same fanbases that strike out with the top 100 kids. You won't hear USC, Bama, etc. having that discussion bc they are getting those top kids. We need to reach for the stars, even if we fall short we'll still land on the moon...

Then what will happen

Is Hoke will have filled spots with less talent, plain and simple. Over the long haul recruiting rankings measure success save for a few outliers.

Think of it this way

Remember when beaver dropped us and we picked up denard. Well that was by design, it's part of the game, and that seemed to work out pretty good. I'd have no problem if a 3 star decides to decommit in favor of us signing a top 50 kid, those are the kids we need to get back on top.

Absolutely no reason

That we shouldn't close out our OL recruiting with 3 elite blue chip 4/5 star types, anything less will be settling. We are in a unique position to be very very picky here.

Or rather

Withdrawing offers...

We are in a unique position

Where we can afford to be very very picky...I'm sure the coaches understand that but something tells me we are going to take a few 3 stars soon at the expense of some 4 stars. But hey, this is why the coaches get paid the big bucks, stars don't concern them, hope it pans out.

Doesn't matter why he committed

The fact is that a top DE will be going to one of our biggest rivals. Just hope he doesn't turn into a monster that we'll have to worry about every year, the kid has that kind of potential. Washington becomes an even bigger target now, need to lock that kid up.

We'll sign 28

There will be attrition between now and Feb and few seniors will be granted fifth years. There's also a good chance someone in the 2011 class doesn't make it to Ann arbor

I think they will keep several spread plays

And I think our best run and pass play will be the same this year as it was last year. The play where denard just takes the snap in shotgun and runs behind a FB/TE, and play where denard fakes run and then throws to a wide open roundtree in the seem.

He should hire family to help

Maybe a young up and coming attorney from Los Angeles thats worked for him before who can be a middle man between Tom and Joe...

Tommy you got my number!

Bigger is better

If you are in the legal field. The big firms generally will hire interns as associates if they perform well, and starting salary at a large firm can be nearly double that of a small one. And if it's anything in investment banking, shoot for the big names at all costs and then pray they hire you after-salaries at Goldman Sachs are incredible which is why they are so hated.

Can't blame him

It's a huge decision and if he wants to take some officials to make sure it's best for him then that's what he should do. Unfortunately this probably means he won't be coming here because of the impending increase in attention of other schools and our current scholarship situation with DB's. Hoke isn't going to turn down one of the dozen 4/5 star DB's we are recruiting if they decide to commit before Morgan. And recruiting 5 DB's wont happen unless there's attrition this summer/fall or another DB decommits, I find it hard to believe that Hoke would be comfortable having roughly 20% of his squad being all DB types.

Bring forth the golden child

You know that movie the golden child with eddy murphy, at the end when he's trying to escape the demon and he's freaking out and the little bald kid touches his hand and Ed suddenly becomes calm and says everythings gonna be ok....well that is what I wish I could do for you right now....but unfortunately I cannot.

All I can tell you is that we will sign 25-28 kids in Feb, they will all be very good and it will be a top 5 class, and our team will be more talented in 2012 because of it. Just take solace in that and try and enjoy some football Saturday's this year...go blue!

Al Kessel

That guy has the voice of angel, it's like the first time I heard the beatles. And he'll give the first 1000 fans a discount on deli meats and half gallons of country fresh milk, because, he's with us....

Well that question creates a paradox

Because if Carr were beating USC and OSU with regularity wouldn't that mean UM was a juggernaut that could've recruited even better players than they were getting, and wouldnt that upgrade in talent greatly reduce the likelihood that UM loses to App St in 2007?

Agreed

I always become concerned when a recruits instate school doesnt offer, but I actually believe this is a case where Illinois simply dropped the ball and made a huge mistake because this kid has all the tools to be a great defensive back IMO. Our coaches made a similar mistake a couple years ago with jonathan hankins, and boy did that one turn out to burn us. He should be starting for us this season next to Martin in what could've been the best DT tandem in the big ten.

He's done our family proud

Tommy won't be afraid to make the changes necessary to be a top tier franchise. He's got an uncanny ability to turn an organization around, and we all know he's not afraid to spend the big bucks! However, it may take a few years...

Nice goggles, may I?

I appreciate the homerism, but our team last year was about as close to ten wins as Pryor is to having his jersey retired. The team I saw play against Wisconsin, OSU, and Miss St. was a bottom tier big ten team, and it wasn't all the defenses fault. We'll need significant overall improvement in order to win 8 or 9 games this year.
