Yes! I was delivering the…

Yes! I was delivering the Kalamazoo Gazette* in my neighborhood that afternoon. Had no idea there was any problem till it got completely quiet (the birds must've sensed the storm), then the emergency sirens went off, followed by what sounded like a freight train - and I was about 2 miles from where it touched down.Learned how powerful nature is that day.

*The Gazette was like a blog, but printed on paper, and then delivered by a kid straight to your house - once a day.

Beilein has some hops!

Great championship run.  Unbelievable turnaround since January.

I was able to make it to illinois, Purdidn't, and Wisconsin.  I now know there is nothing better than a mid-day basketball game to sneak out to .... "I have an event to go to, I'll be back around 3pm."

"Original" Big 10 teams traveled very well.  Was great to see so many Midwesterners from Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana here in DC.  And there were also a lot of Sparties on Friday.

Sat next to a Maryland fan during Purdue game (he was settling in for almost 12 hours of basketball).  They miss their ACC rivalries and think they have no chance in football now.  I wonder if they had to do it over again ... would they stay in the ACC?  I'm not sure with Under Armour behind them that the Big10 money is worth the loss of traditional rivalries (they were an original ACC team!).

After the game on Sunday, I was near the tunnel where the team exited and the guy next to me was asking/challenging all the players and coaches to jump up and touch his hand.  It was a pretty good jump as  you can see from the photo.  Everyone in good sport and fun accepted the challenge.  Coach Beilein joked with him and was about to walk by when the guy said, "Jeff Meyer could do it."  Beilein stopped in his tracks, accepted the challenge, jumped in his street shoes and tie ... and slapped the guy's hand.  Pretty awesome.

Not sure if I posted picture correctly ... but hopefully.

Fuck Cancer

A deep feeling of sadness swept over me as I read your note.

This MGoBlog is a strong community.  And even though we've never met, we share a deep and strong bond -- the Spirit of Michigan that Yost described so perfectly.  This community has a common history.  We have the same hopes and dreams for the future.  MGoBlog is where we can go any time, from any place in the world, to be with other Michigan Men and Women to feel the Spirit of Michigan.

I have no other words other than I'm very sorry.  Fuck cancer.  Go Blue!

Yamaha Virago or Honda Rebel

A 250 or 300 is a good starter bike - fast enough to keep up with traffic (they can go up to 80 mph and you don't need to go faster than that) but light enough to put your foot down and keep it from tipping over on you.  A new Honda Rebel or Yamaha 250 starts around $4,300.  So a used one will be a lot less.

Definitely take the new rider safety class.  It usually goes Sat and Sunday at a local community college.  You gain a lot of knowledge quickly from the experienced teachers.  The class usually uses 250s and you spend a lot of time on the bike.

Always wear your helmet.

Never, ever drink and ride.

Have fun and be safe.

Congratulations!

Full time students.  6am practices.  Four to five times a week for six months.  Club sport.  No scholarships.

One national champion!

I know where I was at 6am four to five times a week in Ann Arbor in the 1980s.  (Hint: I wasn't skating at Yost.)

Miami (NTM) is the Connecticut basketball of women's synchro skating.  Miami won 13 US championships in a row until Saturday, when Michigan re-claimed the title they last won in 1999.

Congratulations on a hard earned, well deserved, national championship!  Go Blue!
