I'm a UM alum and a current UT grad student, and my parents were in this weekend. All three of us went to the game together, and it was pathetic. Michigan fans at least fill up the stadium and go bat-shit-crazy for the first half when we're playing someone like Eastern. If I had to guess, there were at least 15,000 no-shows (in a 95,000-ish capacity stadium), and there couldn't have been more than 60,000 there by the time we left early in the 4th quarter -- I've NEVER left a Michigan game early, and I would prefer not to here, but the fans were so miserable it wasn't worth staying.
Seriously? I actually phoned my brother and told him "the entire crowd made our alumni section look rowdy."
The observation about students was right, too. The entire bleacher section at the south end of the field is filled with students (probably 1/3 of whom didn't show on Saturday), but then the rest of students are peppered everywhere along the entire eastern side of the stadium. My seats are in the northeast corner. I'm probably surrounded by more non-students than students. It's a pretty nonsensical system.
But in a more serious manner, my evaluation of Long reminds me of one that I found when I was a Teaching Assistant. In my office, there was an old student evaluation taped to the wall. The question on that side of the sheet requested the evaluator to comment on any weaknesses of the TA. On it, the student wrote:
"All strengths, no weaknesses. Like Blade to vampires."
I went to the Spring Coaching Clinic in April, and I didn't think Threet looked all that bad. I was actually fairly impressed watching the way the spread operated with him at the helm (that is until scrimmaging and full-contact started and the offensive line collectively played sieve). But I'm not sold that he's a complete dud for the offense.
I actually never made it to Angelo's for breakfast... I always lived on the south end of town (closer to the Big House and Yost, of course).
My favorite place for breakfast was Frank's Restaurant. It's on Maynard right next to the parking garage behind Nickel's Arcade. It has early hours, and don't go there if you're looking for a fast meal. They usually only have one waitress on hand, and awesome as she may be, her paired with the grizzly old cook (who allegedly has cooked every meal to ever pass through there) can only move things so quickly. But the food is cheap, greasy, plentiful and absolutely delicious.
You definitely have to tailgate on Saturday, of course. I enjoy going either to Pioneer High School or the U-M golf course right there by the stadium -- I usually end up at Pioneer. It's a hell of a time.
As far as sightseeing goes, just head to central campus and enjoy. Ever since I graduated I enjoy just walking around campus and taking it all in. Walk north on State St into campus; you'll pass by the Law Quad (and you absolutely HAVE to walk through there), the Union, and the Diag will be right there.
As far as hanging out and partying, that's wide open. Personally, I think you must go to Dominic's for some sangria. It's on Madison just off of East University -- but it's only open until 10, so plan accordingly. I'm a big fan of Arbor Brewing Company (on Washington) for darts and beer, as well as the Arena (kiddie-corner to ABC). The latter has some nice projectors set up for watching other games, and they usually have some drink specials. Ashley's (on State St) is also great for the beer connossieur -- it has something like 300 different beers.
And be sure to raid Steve & Barry's for every $7 t-shirt you can get your hands on.

No consideration whatsoever for other rivalries. He wouldn't even address them. I've met some people from down south who would laugh as they roast this guy on a spit for tailgating.
