Just heard this morning on the radio a basic piece of easily obtainable background information that would have made Brown's selection of California far less mystifying than it initially seemed. I don't recall seeing it anywhere on MGoBlog, either in any of Brian's articles or on the board. It's not in this thread.
One of Brown's teammates on his Wheeler team is Bilal Abdur-Rahim, who is the very much younger brother of Wheeler alum Sharif Abdul-Rahim. Until Brown came along, Sharif was the most notable Wheeler alum, with a 12-year NBA career. The connection to Brown's choice of Cal is that Abdul-Rahim also attended Cal for one year, and recently completed his Berkeley degree after his NBA career ended. There's no confirmation out of the Brown family about the extent of any relationship with Abdul-Rahim, but it's ridiculously unlikely to me that there weren't meaningful conversations between the Brown family and Sharif Abdul-Rahim about attending Cal.
*Edit: Ira on WTKA just confirmed that this was addressed by Sam Webb last week, and apparently Sharif Abdul-Rahim is one of the main advisors to the Brown family. Given this relationship, the crystal balls shouldn't have been pointed to Kansas or Kentucky or even Michigan—they should have been at least equally pointed to Berkeley.

Just for argument's sake, if a post with no words bothers you so much, wouldn't it make more sense to let the OP know your opinion, so perhaps he could do things differently the next time?
|1 day 45 min ago||Why do you still care about this shit?||
I know you have absolutely no curiosity why somebody would go out of their way to neg an innocuous post about a Michigan athletic victory on a blog that only exists to cover Michigan sports, because that's your aggressively dismissive I'm-a-worldly-wise-cynic-but-everybody-else-is-a-silly-douchebag persona here. Me, I'm curious.
|1 day 59 min ago||What a zinger from Don. Thanks for coming out.||
OK then, why did you neg the OP about a Michigan baseball win but not have the balls to make any comment until I mentioned it?
What exactly is it about a Michigan baseball victory that you dislike?

For a twelve-year old, that's really saying something.

Gold was drafted In 2000 by the Broncos.... didn't have the size of many NFL LBs but had excellent speed and quickness.

I was at the game on Friday. It's the first Michigan baseball game I've been to in years so obviously it's a tiny sample size but the Wolverines did not look good at all to me. A number of defensive lapses in the field, lots of ineffectual infield toppers with men on base, and the Hawkeyes hit the crap out of the ball. Good to know they could turn the tables. Too bad I missed Harbaugh.

I'm not sure I'm buying the BA tweet theory as a reason for Brown's decision, but that doesn't change the fact that you're right about social media. For whatever reason, it seems to bring out the stupid in people, including those who should know better, like everybody over the age of 22

They make a living off those people who feel it's so necessary to have "insider access" that they're willing to pay for it on a monthly basis.
If all those paying customers woke up one morning and said to themselves, "fuck it, I'm using my money on something else" and canceled their subscriptions to Rivals or 247 or Scout, the recruiting-industrial complex would shrink dramatically.
|2 days 4 hours ago||Why does anybody believe these crystal ball things?||
That's what I'd like to know. Crystal's balls have as much insider knowledge as all these idiots.
Anybody who was following Brown's decision process would have known that he and his inner circle were extremely tight-lipped about their thinking, and the people making confident predictions about this school or that school based on "trends" were just pulling it out of their asses.

"It's not all about the money" = "Academics are really important to me" = "Looks aren't everything" = "I'll respect you in the morning"
|2 days 21 hours ago||Brown was headed to Kentucky.||
If this comes to pass, it really shouldn't surprise anybody. Once I read his words about "it's not all about the money" my innate skepticism that he was coming here doubled.

So there's some knob out there who hates the idea of Harbaugh talking about education in Detroit, but is too much of a fucking coward to actually post a comment explaining why. Drive-by anonymous neggers are pussies.

When's the last time an elite black fighter lost to an Asian fighter in a major championship bout? I'm sure it's happened, but I can't think of one.
But I'm rooting for Manny anyhow.

I worked in a shoe store during senior year of HS in 1970-71, and one of the long-time employees was a kindly older gentlemen named Art. My last day of work there was in the spring of '71, and Art took me down to the local Sander's to buy me a sundae and give me some advice. I figured that he was gonna poke me in the ribs and tell me to always wear a rubber and never let the hooker pour your drink, but instead he starts telling me about how the price of gold was soon going to be allowed to float from the $35/oz it had been for years, and that he would advise any young man in my situation to buy as much gold as I possibly could while it was still $35 because before long it was going to go all the way to $200/oz.
I listened to his spiel and nodded politely at all the right moments, and shook his hand as he wished me good luck at U-M. I didn't have any extra money lying around to buy gold, and even if I did that sort of financial speculation was just something alien to my family.
Art was right; a decade later it was $590/oz, and today it's over $1000. That would have been a nice little investment.

I'll admit to being a gigantic cynic about humanity in general and high-profile athletes in particular, but to me this statement is equivalent to "Academics are really important to me" in terms of how likely it is that Michigan will land any given recruit.

"Steve Lorenz was one of the recent 3 and he usually doesn't make picks towards Michigan unless he is pretty confident"
"Usually, a trend in picks that is very recent is more likely to be correct than picks that were made months prior. I mean if Michigan picked up 5 picks (for the sake of argument) in the past week, and all of Syracuses picks are from December/January, there's probably more foundation in those Michigan picks."
"Definitely feeling Michigan for Washington more than I had in the recent past, ...."
