So...in the last paragraph,…

So...in the last paragraph, the dollar sign after the link to the article about Upton Stout -

Does that mean the article is paywalled, or does that mean Stout to Michigan isn't a done deal because of NIL?

Or both?

OSU has been paying their…

OSU has been paying their players since at LEAST Tressel was hired.  Their players don't (or rarely) set foot on campus or in class.  Cheating is ingrained in their DNA, and the past 20 or so years of their success has been predicated on it.  Now that NIL is starting to level the playing field they cannot handle parity, so they have to cling to the hope that potential petty level three violations are the real reason for the team's decline.

I have never wanted to beat OSU more than this year.  But more - I've never wanted THE PLAYERS TO WIN more...no team, NO TEAM...has deserved a win more than team #144, and no team worked harder for it.

I am SO happy for that team.

Ono: I think we should just sit back and let the process play out.  Maybe give the NCAA more info than they're entitled to.

Warde: I don't know - sdogg1m says that we must show support for Coach.

When I was in college (think mid-to-late nineties), ND played OSU in a bowl game and my roommate said she hoped "1 million pigeons would simultaneously fly over the stadium and shit on everyone," and to this day, I have never heard a more genius or apt description of how I feel about these teams.

I really, really hope…

I really, really hope McNamara deserves - and keeps - the starting job, and here's why:

Michigan's offense has the potential to be one of the best in the nation.

Michigan's defense lost its wunderkind DC, a once-in-a-generation defensive end, and second once-in-a-generation defensive end, an all-star safety/corner who this site repeatedly asked "did they try to edge", a senior middle linebacker, a senior safety and several other contributors.  They have good depth, so we're all hoping it will be alright.  But let's be honest - this defense is going to take a step back...we're just hoping it's a small step and not a leap.

The "game manager who won't lose you games, but potentially got better" seems like the obvious choice here.

The "dynamic with gigantic upside, but a downside that could put too much pressure on our as-yet-untested defense" seems like a great starter next year.

So...change Wisconsin's…

So...change Wisconsin's mascot to the Plague Rats?

Oh yeah, I was there.  That…

Oh yeah, I was there.  That was the coldest I have ever been at a game.

Anyone else remember Beilien…

Anyone else remember Beilien's second or third year, when the team was in laz-y-boys at Crisler and everyone waited with baited breath wondering whether we'd get a bid?  Then we got a 10 seed and it was the last bracket to be announced and everyone went crazy?  Now we're talking about a potential 1 seed, a year after going to Beilien's SECOND Final?!?!?

Small hiccup in a longer journey is an understatement.

I think Michigan loses this…

I think Michigan loses this one, and I think they lose big.

I think we will be calling for Pep Hamilton's head before mid-season.

I hope I'm wrong.  I remember, in the long long ago, being excited for football season.

I hope this ends OSU soon.

I hope this ends OSU soon.

I have a bench from the…

I have a piece of bench from the stadium that was thrown out during the 97-98 renovation.

They are seats 18 and 17.

We've had PS Vue for a little over a year.

I got the mid-range package, and I was able to watch every football game last year.  I was also worried about missing out on sports when we cut the cord, but it hasn't been a problem.

I'm a HUGE fan of PS Vue - I highly recommend it.

Really?

I went to Illinois for grad school.  We went to Memphis one weekend becuase reasons.

Memphis is 400 miles from Champaign.  FOUR HUNDRED miles.

A quick google check will confirm that.

copyright Copyright would still be an issue. A very, very big issue.
My two cents

The original The Victors (referred to by John Phillips Sousa as the finest college march ever written) was written by two then-students.  The Men's Glee Club annually puts out requests for current and former members (and anyone, really) to submit new songs to go on the most recent Songs of Michigan album.  The School of Music is world-renown.  It consistantly attracts and produces talent at an unbelievable and amazing level.  The concept of adding to the rich musical heritage that is intertwined with Michigan sports and other school traditions is a not a new one.  Rather, it should be applauded and supported whenever possible.

This isn't that.  This is two musically-talentless hacks who are trying to capitalize on "the Brand," while adding nothing to the University.  These guys are doing exactly what Brandon did to get himself fired.

congrats!

congrats!

Boo'ing at the game

Can someone ask Hoke at his press conferences what HE would like us, the fans, to do so that it is objectively obvious that our "boos" are directed at him and his staff, and not at the students?

This will come off a little

This will come off a little curmudgeon-ish, but I think it provides some balance to this debate.  Or I may just be self-indulgent.  Whatever.  Anyway...

I don't personally know anyone here (at least, I don't think I do), and I certainly don't know the circumstances under which any of you went to college.

However, I worked my ass off in high school, got good grades and got in to Michigan (many, many years ago).  PAYING for Michigan - that was a whole other level of working my ass off.

I had three jobs, worked over 40 hours a week to pay for school, housing and food and got an engineering degree (barely, if you look at my transcripts).

I had no help getting into school.  I had no special help to keep me there.

So you'll have to excuse me when some cries "exploitation" about students who (1) face less stringent standards to get into school than I did; (2) have $40,000 (FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) handed to them; (3) have access to significantly more resources than I did in an attempt to help them not only stay in school but keep their grades up; (4) have FREE ROOM AND BOARD ON TOP OF THE $40,000; (5) have to work about the same number of hours a week that I did; and (6) have access to a much better education than they might have without their athletic abilities.

Finally, any argument to pay players additional money that is based on "they raise a shit-ton of money for the school so they should be compensated" is baseless and hypocritical unless you simultaneously believe (1) that players on women's basketball, women's hockey, men's soccer, men's gymnastics, and any other student-athlete for a money-losing sport, who works JUST AS HARD AND JUST AS LONG as football players, should have to PAY the school to play since their team loses money for the school; AND (2) students in engineering, art, math or any other degree who contribute to papers, discoveries or any other aspect that brings a shit-ton of money into the school should also get paid.

Won national championship,

Won national championship, stellar winning percentage (and increased Michigan's overall winning percentage), handled the program with absolute class, an absolute model representative of the university.  Unlike so many other "iconic" coaches (Bobby Knight, Woody, Tressel, Paterno, Bowden, etc.), left position of his own accord and was asked to stay around the program.

Still lost to Appalacian State.

Outback bowl I signed up just to respond to Brian about the Outback bowl. The reason Jim is paid so much is because he negotiates every single contract that the Outback bowl is a part of. The conferences, the sponsor, the stadium, the concessions, the various stuff that the teams do during the week, everything. He's actually kind of under-paid.
