Congrats!  Engineering has a brutal curve from what I hear, but hopefully, he goes in ready to study hard and watch some good football games!

Congrats to you and your son.

As an Eng. Grad and a past Bursley resident my best advice to your son is to do everything he can to get a dorm on main campus as a Frosh. I liked my time on Nortch Campus but really liked Soph year in West Quad. It is good to get the main campus vibe and unless things have changed almost all my classes were on main campus first year anyway.

Things may have changed over the years though - I was the last semester for "drafting" before everything went to CAD so it was quite a bit ago.

Agreed. I spent two years living on North Campus, and it is incredible how much difference there is between living on North and Central Campus. Living on Central Campus helps you feel more associated with the University in my opinion. Also, OP, do everything you can to keep your son out of Baits.

Congrats on your son's world class education!  CC alum myself as well.

Your son's arrival will coincide with the ascension of Michigan football to the top, where it belongs.  I think we can draw a causal relationship from that.

My daughter really stressed about the decision.  Liked Michigan but was burned out on moving and wanted to stay close.  Michigan is 1000 miles from us.  It was a tough slog, but in the end she decided to go Blue.

After a semester + she couldn't be happier with her decision.  (18 credits 1st sem freshman year, hard science major, 3.6.  Do I seem proud?).  Obviously it's not for everyone because it's demanding, but once they're there, 95% of Michigan freshmen stay to be sophomores.  I'd expect those percentages to go up later years.

Expect your kids to thrive at Michigan.

I still remember the days I spent long hours in the lab until 4 or 5am just to find out my car totally buried in the snow in the parking lot. After 2 hours of sleep, I rushed to catch my 8 or 9am class... I have no idea now how I could do that day after day.

The Michigan Engineering community welcomes your son with open arms.   Open robotic arms.

As a UM Engineering Alum, I proudly proclaim "I regret that I have only one UM engineering degree to give to my country."  Or something like that.   I hope your son feels the same way a few years from now.

HAIL!

Good news indeed. Congratulations to your son!

I've got a few years yet before we're filling out applications (mine are 8 and 7), but I can only hope I'm having the same celebration in about a decade.

That's great news for you and your son!  There are a lot of exciting things happening at Michigan Engineering, glad to hear he will be sharing in the experience.  Best of luck to him.

I'm a Walmart Wolverine and none of my three kids(Doctor, CPA and Librarian) attended U of M.  I love the football team and think it s the best university in the land.  Conrats to the proud Father and son.

My nephew just accepted into same program, but going to Texas A&M.

Could be worse. Offered full ride to go to OSU's.

My BSEE from UM has served me extremely well, even though I went into CS.   All of my friends with UM Engineering degrees have had good careers as well.   Tell your son to buckle up and work hard for the next 4-5 years and he will most likely have a very bright future ahead of him.
