Hey, they don't give the…

Hey, they don't give the penant to the major league team who shows up in the LCS with the best record.

Michigan's first string D…

Michigan's first string D will be elite and may be the best first string in the country in 2024.  But the 2023 D had so much high quality depth that it was going to be practically impossible to field a weak or inexperienced player anywhere.  That is the fundamental difference in 2024, and that is why you can't make realistic predictions for the 2024 defense.  Particularly after Sabb and Moore were taken out of the mix, there is some chance that we will be playing the wrong guy at the wrong time at some critical moment this year.

The 2024 defense is also far more likely than 2023 to be put in difficult positions by the offense.  And then you have the wholesale coaching transition.

So yeah, they will be damn good.  But just eyeballing them in 2024, I expect the look and results to be noticably worse than 2023.

Tom Brady of Michigan is the GOAT.  The concept transcends

However it ultimately turns out, I just hope the lawsuit lasts a loooong time

It’s times like this that I…

It’s times like this that I think of what it must be like to be a writer for a mediocre national sports page, trying to pump out articles to get people like us from something like 40 different fanbases to read something we/they may find meaningful.  It’s an impossible task, the writer will never know the deepest depths of that many programs or all of our layers.  So in that context, I’d say this was an OK article when OK is the ultimate success.

That is awful to hear.  Let…

That is awful to hear.  Let this day end quickly.

The end would be fun, most…

The end would be fun, most definitely.  But I would go full Sennacherib-on-Babylon to the ND football program if given the opportunity rather than watch them have another season where they back into a playoff spot.  The media slobber is too much, and their fans think they are being given that success by god himself.

I too applied to just one…

I too applied to just one school.  (This is not advice for modern students)

I'll put you in detention for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step Dean!

This is from Forbes:…

This is from Forbes:

Contracts continue to decline in value as the draft progresses, ending with the final pick in the seventh round, nicknamed “Mr. Irrelevant,” who is expected to land a rookie deal just above $4 million.

Once set, those contracts are final for the time being: rookie contracts for drafted newcomers cannot be “renegotiated, amended or altered in any way” until players complete their final regular season game in their third year, according to the league collective bargaining agreement.

A four year, $4 million deal is probably better than any UDFA deal.  But I'm sure there are exceptions out there.  For example, I could see Trente coming around over a year or two and getting a seven figure contract before this year's 7th rounders' deals are up.

That would have been plenty…

That would have been plenty snaps.  You're talking about 300-400 snaps, and he is a badass so would have done some significant good in all that time.

If he can get anywhere in…

If he can get anywhere in the ballpark of Nico Collins as a jump ball merchant, he will stick forever.

Mahogany is my dark horse of…

Mahogany is my dark horse of this draft because the wood is such a great tone wood.  Warm and cozy but also biting and articulate.

Would have been nice to get…

Would have been nice to get Trente, Wallace, McGregor and the others back for another year, but i am sure these undrafted guys will be able to find a foothold in the league if they get the right UDFA opportunity.  All the best to every one of these champions!

Awesome to see this young…

Awesome to see this young man drafted to the NFL, but note to Harbaugh: throw the ball to Cornelius!

Ohio?

Ohio?

Michigan is obviously going…

Michigan is obviously going to lose some guys as transfers, but you cannot take away my joy at watching Michigan State burn.  If Michigan destroys it's program again, that will hurt badly, but this is not that day.

Barrett, Jones and Wallace,…

Barrett, Jones and Wallace, and we tie the record.

Seth.

Seth.

So is he transferring to the Chargers?

This would be great for…

This would be great for college football, I hope they go through with it.  There is no reason to have a team like Michigan playing G5 teams twice a year when we could be playing legit competition in a power 5 conference, for example.  And a G5 playoff would be pretty neat too.

Well deserved.  He was…

Well deserved.  He was really one of the most electric and effective college football players in history.

He probably broke down the…

He probably broke down the spring games and was like, two had touch isn't for me.

Come on up north, Marquise!  We use the whole alphabet in Michigan, and are not afraid to use the word Ohio.

Apologies to Seth and John U…

Apologies to Seth and John U Bacon, but MSU being a train wreck never gets old.  You will not find me talking like an Ohio State fan in 2018 hoping MSU returns to competitive for the quality of the rivalry.  Let them be a train wreck now and forever.

People have the right to…

People have the right to describe themselves however they want.  That does not mean you have the right to call people whatever you want.

Chief is a French word that…

Chief is a French word that just means "boss" more or less.  So KC could pull back some of the Native American connections and go along just fine, if they felt like it or were compelled to.

On the other hand, I can't…

On the other hand, I can't think of any team called The Horde.

The Lions did grow on me…

The Lions did grow on me during my time in Ann Arbor, but as a dyed in the wool Vikes fan, this would be pretty exciting for me.

This was a very helpful…

This was a very helpful summary of the NCAA's history, thank you for this.

On the new organization you're proposing, the major impediment to that would most likely be the same one that has historically blocked reform that would directly benefit the athletes: they come and go as a train of youngsters while the professional administrations inside the universities and the NCAA have experienced staff and leaders.  How would you set up an organization to really advocate for the student athletes.  It sounds even more difficult than getting an auto plant south of the Mason Dixon line to go union.

First, we take your…

First, we take your souls

Next, we take your coaches (except you Ryan, you stay there)

Then we take your players

Wait, how can you have…

Wait, how can you have something called the rock and roll hall of Fame and not have Soundgarden in it?  This does not compute.

Warren looks more ready to…

Warren looks more ready to play QB than anyone else, and he looked good enough to win a lot of games in the spring game, but I don't think Warren was a four star in high school.  Here is a quote from a maize n brew article about a week ago :

His senior year of high school was canceled because of COVID. The year before that, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He went from being an up-and-coming high school quarterback in Southern California, garnering interest from Ivy League schools, to being a cancer survivor who never had the opportunity to be a high school starter.

That looks like he was just never rated, because he missed two years.  Michigan won the national championship partly by doing their own scouting during covid and developing guys who would contrubute three years later.  If Warren pops and becomes an above average big ten QB, his would be the ultimate success story of that approach that allowed Michigan to overcome the recruiting powerhouses and NIL factories.

This is asking a lot from…

This is asking a lot from the portal considering there are no more than 20 practices and four months until opening day.  This QB room has at least one or two average or better big ten QB's in it.  An average big ten QB will get this roster to 9-3, and an above average one will get us to the big ten championship game.  By then, this will be a different team and all bets are off for how far they go from there.

After loaded rosters in '22 and '23 and last year's departures, that's a solid outlook.  If we wanted to have back to back national chpionships, we should have won it in 2022, which had a team much more well suited to do it.

Both blew it, because that…

Both blew it, because that game was such a mismatch in M's favor and yet they lost.  But when the defense went away from just holding TCU down and making them drive the field towards the higher risk approach, they got smoked.

To the NCAA, it's not worth…

To the NCAA, it's not worth changing a moronic rule unless Michigans gets dragged through hell because of it first.

Successfully identifying…

Successfully identifying himself as the problem is only a first step.  The paper should take him off of this beat and send him to a year of training on how to be a person who does not abuse or harass women at a minimum.  Firing someone for one moment of bad judgement seems extreme, but being a girl dad and having watched Moxie, I'm in favor of it.  We don't need to look away or minimize this type of behavior, we should try to eliminate it.

There is no reason to get…

There is no reason to get frustrated about NFL QB draft grades, predictions or mocks.  No one actually knows which qb's will be good or serviceable NFL QB's.  All predictions are BS and it's much more of a crapshoot than anyone will admit, even with the trail of woe at the Top Five QB pick history.

JJ may be a future HOF'er and he may flame out.  No one knows and it can't be predicted.  For the record, I think he will last in the NFL for quite a while and there is a good chance he is a starter in the top half of the league.

But I'm guessing Doyel has…

But I'm guessing Doyel has never publicly asked a man to heart emoji him in exchange for positive coverage either.  So it's not so much about how you have to treat a woman differently, it's about the general wrongess of sexual harassment.

Yeah, I also don't care…

Yeah, I also don't care about high academic standards for scholarship athletes.  It's not like I had to pass any athletic testing to get into the college of engineering.  Michigan is special because we have elite people across many, many facets of the human existence, and few if any are elite at more than one thing.

It's level headed reason…

It's level headed reason-talkers like this who can help the otherwise hopeless masses at eleven warriors (RCMB is not salvageable) get past the pointless sign stealing topic, but will they listen?  Doubtful.

What are the wings' chances…

What are the wings' chances in seven games against the Rangers, any optimism there?

But on the bright side,…

But on the bright side, buckeye fans are so stone-headed that Brindley having a good career may actually make them unhappy.

Ohio States QB's all look…

Ohio States QB's all look awful.  Sure it's just spring, but you don't see anyone firing a ball in anywhere.  Howard didn't play much, but that appears to still be where all of their eggs reside.

And on defense, it's hard to tell given Ohio State's offense, but it looks like it's built to stop a passing game.  Lots of interceptions and not so much of stuffing the run game.  I assume they will easily make the playoffs so this doesn't matter much, but I think my fear level has ratcheted down one spot after their two hand touch  spring game.

Great achievement getting to…

Great achievement getting to this point in this particular season.

That was somehow reminiscent of losing a game to the '94 Penguins.

2013 was a legit chance to…

2013 was a legit chance to win it all, but aside from that I don't think the big ten team in the finals has really deserved a win.  They just happened to accidentally make the finals.  I guess you could say Purdue was fully justified as a top two team this year, but they could not play with UConn.

Sooooooooo, UConn to the Big Ten?

The NFL's 12 team playoff…

The NFL's 12 team playoff arrangement was perfect based on the length of it's regular season, and they made a mistake changing from that.  The old MLB playoff system, pre-wildcard was good too, since it refelcted the extremely long and statistically meaningful regular season results.  MLB wildcards are stupid, since we have 162 games of data already.

But NHL hockey looks at the errors of other leagues' playoff structure and says, hold my Canadian lager.  The NHL has an extremely long and very informative regular season, and then invites more than half the league to the playoffs anyway.  The ice hockey champion is crowned in freaking June.  The NHL would be more sensible if it were just a series of tournaments instead of having a regular season.  If you're going to devalue the 80+ regular season games to almost nothing , then just skip to the playoff format right away.  And for crying out loud, hockey, finish your season when it's still cold at least in Canada!
