Below are the current largest athletic budgets in the country. The "profitability" thing doesn't reflect reality, since every school calculates this differently (or 'pays' for different things with it's budget). Some schools count the money spent on scholarships against the athletic budget, while some others do not.
.Ohio State----------$109,000,000
.U of Florida--------$108,000,000
.U of Texas----------$105,000,000
.U of Tennessee------$ 95,000,000
.U of Michigan-------$ 89,000,000
.U of Wisconsin------$ 83,000,000
.U of Alabama--------$ 81,946,000
.Auburn University---$ 81,697,000
.L.S.U.--------------$ 76,499,000
.Penn State---------$ 76,327,000
.U of Georgia-------$ 75,937,000
12. U of Nebraska-----$ 71,000,000
.U. of Oklahoma-----$ 69,431,000
.Texas A&M----------$ 69,413,000
The 800 pound gorilla here is clearly OSU. They fully fund 37 sports and unbelievable facilities for all of them. I'm not sure I can even name 37 collegiate sports.
