I may have been a dick about it, but I'm not wrong.

50 weeks 1 day ago It's not a British thing, calm down

When talking about the country Spain, even British people would agree that "Spain is in debt."  When talking about the Spanish soccer team, you would say "Spain are European Champions."  What else would it be?  Spain is European Champions?

We do it with our own sports teams all the time, like "the Miami Heat are NBA Champions," or "the Thunder are playing poorly."  In this case, the team names are also countries, so it is confusing you.

Jesus Christ, I hope none of you are English majors.

1 year 5 days ago I have absolutely no problem

I have absolutely no problem with people that comment in threads that they are not interested in just to share their ignorant opinions.

That being said, you are a shitty person that has likely never played soccer, and has never travelled outside the US, ever.

Hope he doesn't get Judge Simpson.

1 year 14 weeks ago officiating is bad

officiating is bad

1 year 14 weeks ago eh

A bit anticlimactic in the end.  Milan hunkered down and defended and Arsenal seemed to move away from what was working in the first half.  Van Percie will be thinking about his point blank chance for the equalizer against Abbiati, who was on the ground and came up huge in the end.  3-0 is your final.  Milan are through.

1 year 14 weeks ago Holy crap

RVP just blew a golden opportunity.

1 year 15 weeks ago Had to work late

Had to work late and didn't catch the game.  I just got in after hearing the result on the radio.  After joyfully ululating, I couldn't help but think about the opportunities we missed to take the championship outright.  Purdue comes to mind.  So does Iowa.

Oh well, we also won a lot of close games, and I'm sure the Buckeyes and Sparties are lamenting their winnable losses as well.  It just would've been really nice not to have to share the title with those boobs.

Enough being an asshole.  This one is huge.  Especially for the seniors.

1 year 16 weeks ago That video

That video is quite amusing, but in defense of soccer, a lot of those floppers were cautioned or ejected for their theatrics (apparent in the video).  I have long held that the only reason you see so much flopping in soccer is because, if you pull it off, it can give your team an incredible advantage on attack (free kick, penalty kick), or bail you out if you've lost possession in a dangerous area.  In a sport with often limited scoring opportunites, and where possession is so important, these advantages can make all the difference.

Another factor is that you have essentially one referee making the final call on fouls that occur across the length of a massive field of play (usually 120 x 70 yards or so).  So, if there actually is illegal contact, some players will take a tumble or embellish to ensure the referee sees it and it is called.  Referees are also easily swayed by the reactions on the field and emotions of the crowd, and players know this.  When you see a player feigning injury, he is trying to get the offender carded, which can also give your team a huge advantage.  Also, since the clock doesn't stop (for anything) in soccer, it is also a timewasting tactic.

If all this turns you off to soccer, that is totally fine, but please don't call it soft (not that anyone did, but people do).  If you actually watched a match, you'd see these guys take some pretty hard shots and tough it out for the full 90, with only a 15 minute breather.  And also don't act like flopping doesn't occur in other sports, because it happens all the time in basketball, and increasingly in hockey.  The only reason it's not to the same extent is because it doesn't provide the same advantage, but whenever it can provide that advantage, you will see it.

Trey Burke is sweet.

Don't say "no homo."  It's not cool.

1 year 30 weeks ago The O.J. thing

The O.J. thing was quite different.  There was no reasonable doubt; that was a classic case of jury nullification.  That is unlikely to happen in this case.

1 year 32 weeks ago Exactly.

Also, fwiw, I remember Denard having some lingering injuries as the season progressed last year.

1 year 32 weeks ago You

...run a no-huddle spread offense.

Wait, what?

1 year 32 weeks ago all I'm saying

All I'm saying is that Hoke should've brought in a spread guy to run this offense.  If I recall correctly, last year (as a first year starter), Denard Robinson set Michigan and NCAA records running and throwing.  In one offseason, Borges turned our legit Heisman candidate into "uhh, let's see what Devin can do."

Our offense, lead by a second-year Denard Robinson would've been any (spread-minded) o-coordinator's wet dream.  Instead we are stuck in what appears to be Brady Hoke's confused wet manball dream, and I don't like it.

1 year 32 weeks ago Officiating was bad

The officiating was bad, but Brady Hoke blew this game the moment he hired Al Borges to run this offense.  That guy has no idea what to do with the immense talent at his disposal.

1 year 37 weeks ago You have to consider

You have to consider the teams they inherited.  Imagine if Rich Rodriguez had inherited this year's team, or if Brady Hoke had taken over in 2008.

2 years 15 weeks ago Not to be that guy

Not to be that guy, but "jihad" is the Arabic word for "struggle" (internal or external, violent or nonviolent, religious or secular).  It does not mean holy war.

2 years 21 weeks ago Dark was the Night

Growing up, my first love was the blues.  I've moved on to other things since, but this remains one of my favorite songs ever.

2 years 21 weeks ago You don't get love

You don't get love for performing someone else's song with only a fraction of the soul.

Haunting.  Absolutely beautiful.  (Yes, I know he doesn't solo.)

2 years 22 weeks ago I think the biggest argument

I think the biggest argument against the Hoke hire is that it's making everyone want to say "Michigan man" all the time and I'm not cool with that.

2 years 22 weeks ago Not that anyone cares,

Not that anyone cares, but I supported Rich Rodriguez and disagreed with the decision to fire him.  Some of the things that I will miss the most are exactly what many people have been complaining about for the past three years.

I liked that each game on the schedule was equally important to him, and I'm glad he didn't act like Michigan vs. OSU is single greatest rivalry in all of sports.  Most of the sports world (emphasis on world) doesn't give a shit about American football...let alone college football.

I also liked that Rodriguez's teams did not have a sense of entitlement.  Almost everything out of Hoke's mouth at the presser today came off like it was designed to placate the loudest and most annoying segment of our fanbase.  I damn near puked when he emphatically declared: "THIS IS MICHIGAN"...three or four times.  No, Mr. Hoke--your hiring makes it official--this is Notre Dame.  (Okay, maybe not, but seriously...can you name another place where people think like this?)

That being said, Rich Rodgriguez was fired, and I'm over it.  Brady Hoke is our coach and I support him.  I only request that people not use terms like "the RR era," because I think it's misleading and, well, three years is not an era.  "The RR experiment," would be more fitting, but even then, that's with the understanding that we never got to test the hypothesis.

2 years 22 weeks ago The not-so-subtle

The not-so-subtle shots at Rodriguez by Brandon are un-called for.

2 years 23 weeks ago I'm one of the few

I'm one of the few that would have prefered Rich Rodriguez to Jim Harbaugh (or anyone else for that matter), but I've moved on.

Can we name Calvin Magee head coach and throw a bunch of money at a hotshot DC?

I'm kidding but kind of serious.

2 years 23 weeks ago Yeah, true...sorry for the

Yeah, true...sorry for the cattiness.  I've been really pissy lately.

And Dave, if you're reading, I'm sorry for calling you a boob.

2 years 23 weeks ago You're blaming the economy?

Really?

We just ran a great coach with a proven track record out of town after only three years of incremental progress--but not before dragging his name through the dirt.  It's no wonder to me why no one wants this job.

This whole thing makes me sick.

Dave Brandon is a boob.

2 years 24 weeks ago I won't name names

I won't name names, but a lot of the anti-RR/pro-Harbaugh people on this site sound like total whiners...myopic ones too.  Just my take.

If RR is let go after only three years, I don't think that any reasonable person could say he got a fair shake (all things considered).  Bo would not be pleased, but I guess it's only cool to talk about Bo when you're bashing RR or fondling Jim Harbaugh's nuts.

2 years 24 weeks ago Your inability

Your inability (or refusal) to express yourself in your own words--even while responding to criticism for that very thing--makes me think that the joke is on me.  You win, Busey.

I may not like it, but you're good.

2 years 24 weeks ago ...k.
