You thought Baby Seal U was bad...
Just read an article in this weeks ESPNmag. Apparently, Alabama will play Georgia State next year. ESPNmag has been following Georgia St for the last year as they start a program FROM SCRATCH. Next season will be their first season ever as an FCS team. Their season finale? Alabama. That Saban - all class.

It's still an FCS team. Who cares if it's year 1 or 100?

Well, maybe because all the team will be JUCO transfers, walk-on's, or true freshman?

we can safely assume that the team should win 7-8 games and the fan base is entitled to call for the coach's head if they don't.
oh no, wait, that'll be year 2

their conference is just so freakin sweet they have to play these cupcakes to even it out.

i believe bill curry is their head coach. and i bet he called bama to play that game, being an ex coach there. i'm sure ga state needs the cash.

The article was about how 'Bama called them. He asked if they could do it in 2011 or 2012 - when they weren't all freshmen or walk-ons. Bama's response? "Nov 20th, 2010 is our only offer."

If Alabama doesn't raise the roof at mid-field after their first TD, on the way to an 84-0 rout of Georgia State, I'll be pissed.

Stuff like this happens and then teams like Boise St, who offer to play away games to up their competition, go unheard. Somehow I feel like we need to fix this problem before it continues to get worse.

The thing that is problematic is that the huge infusion of cash Ga. State will get from playing Alabama will make a big difference in their football program.
Yes, I agree that I'd like to see far less of FBS teams playing FCS teams, but it's all the more difficult when FCS teams are willing to sign up to get the money (and I don't blame them for it).

Well, of course. Why risk jeopardizing that perfect record by playing a game you might lose?

I couldn't believe that after reading that article on Boise State's unheard of offer.

We played Delaware St and people are complaining about this?
November 9th, 2009 at 11:40 AM ^
What makes you think everyone here was okay with playing Delaware State?
Many on the blog were hoping for a better team. In hindsight seeing how the team has played this year, it was a good tune-up, but a bye week would have sufficed.

That seriously sounds fictitious. Classic. Funny thing is, if the mighty ??????s from Georgia State are even remotely, like for five minutes, competitive with Bama, it could effect the polls. It would surprize me if they make it past midfield on any possession.

I know - when I first started reading the series, I thought about the ol' Screaming Eagles!
