Year-end Beveled Guilt Donation and What Are You Thankful For?

Submitted by xtramelanin on December 28th, 2018 at 6:57 AM

Mates,

Now that Santa is back in the North Pole its that time of the year during these last few days when many think of making donations to various charities and causes.  Its also that count-down time when many look back upon the year to take stock of the host of things they are thankful for that occurred in 2018.  I hope your year was filled with way more good than bad, but even if it wasn't, for most of us it was filled with a lot of mgoblog.  I don't pay for newspapers but one thing I will gladly pay/donate for is mgoblog.  I chipped in my annual donation this morning and I am encouraging you to do the same.  I doubt there is any other place on the internet that you/we could go to have this much generally healthy interaction with others, and it is fun to meet other mgobloggers in real life.  I highly encourage it for those that are able to do so.

Anyway, as per my usual, today's questions are these:

1.  What has gone on in your world that was the most fun/good/great in 2018?

2.  Would you consider hitting that beveled guilt button, even for a very modest donation?

Happy New Year and Go Blue, beat the gators!

1. I'm thankful for the readers and participants at TTB.

2. I support MGoBlog by buying their stuff (books and shirts). I generally don't donate through Beveled Guilt...but I do consider it, so there's that. EDIT: I also don't use AdBlocker on MGoBlog or any sites that I regularly visit.

At least in my case, I look at that Beveled Guilt button around Christmas each year and think to myself, "Let's see.....guilty obsession.....Beveled Guilt......yeah, why the hell not?". I also contribute through the odd publication / shirt purchase.

1. 2018 has been good to me. A big promotion, moved to a nicer house, family is happy and healthy. Outside of putting one of our dogs down suddenly, I really couldn’t ask for more.

2. I really enjoy the site, I check it way too much even during the off-season. To be honest, never thought about donating. I would be willing to do so if small improvements were made - a true mobile app, better functionality on the boards, being able to limit the trolls, and maybe even a UFR for all games. I know it’s free and all, just stating what I want if you are asking what will get me to pay up.

I'm thankful for the MGoDaughter being back in A2 from her service abroad, but am ready for the empty nest phase to resume soon---she uses our car, eats our food and drinks my beer, etc.

I guess my beveledness is conflicted. I have a copy of "Hail to Old Blue" from last Xmas and I've never even opened it. Bad blogger! No Biscuit!

1.  2018 was a good year for me and the family.  Looking forward to improving some things personally and in my practice for 2019, and thankful that I have the opportunity.

2.  Beveled guilt is a yes.  Like others, I check the main page WAY too much and enjoy seeing new topics.  I would be a first day subscriber to any subscription model that would help provide revenue for them to increase content or add features/functionality.

Happy New Year!  Excited to see the 2019 team in action tomorrow.  Go Blue!

I can’t even imagine how many times a day I check this site - it’s as much entertaining as it is informative.

i do buy stuff from the store but would really, really like to see an app for iPhone/iPad users that would make posting pics a little handier. Now THAT is something I’d really be interested in donating to.

Two new dogs in 2018 - a Great Pyrenees and a long haired Chihuahua (no - they don't ever get to share the same space!) balanced the loss of two others.  But my happy centers on the kid and wife, and they're both good.  So its all good...

I haven't hit beveled guilt yet, but will do so soon.  I always purchase HTTV with a decent donation, and normally give towards other fundraisers (Chad Tough and other personal tragedies posted within).  I would also be among the first partakers of an MGoSubscription model...

As for meeting other MGoBloger's - when is the camping trip, again?

1) My son started high school this year. He played trumpet in the marching band. My wife and I chaperoned 3 band trips and I went to 7 high school football games. Watching football minus all of the commercialism of the college and pro games was refreshing.

2) I made a decision years ago not to contribute to beveled guilt until MGoBlog is more transparent about their finances. If they want to be a charity, they should disclose their financial status. (I did buy a few T-shirts including their magnum opus Wolverbear.)

1. Another Championship Game appearance, Final Four and B1G Tournament banners hung (thank you John Beilein), most fun ever golf season and 10 win (and counting) football season.

2. No. Not until there is less whining and negativity. I stay away from this sight after every loss. I don’t need the pity party.

Maybe it’s semantics to a degree, but I’d gladly pay a monthly subscription/donation fee simply to clean up the MGoBoard (not in this post’s case, thankfully).

Low quality posts with uninformative titles, uninformative or one sentence-long posts, and broken links drive me crazy. I stopped using the site for a few months because it bothered me that much.

I understand there may be some confusion as how to link an article (haven’t made a post myself since the update), but the rest is definitely under the control of the poster. If my subscription fee allowed posts to be approved before going live on the board by a mod or there was a separate point system for post creators, I’d probably use and enjoy the site a lot more.

I'm thankful for many of the things for which I am always thankful.  Family, friends, health, etc.

This year, I'm especially thankful for my son's recent admittance to the University of Michigan...as well as the growth of the business I started after about 20 years working in the corporate world.

I don't have any Beveled Guilt, as I support HTTV every year at the highest-possible donation level.

1. Thankful that my daughter was accepted to UM and thrived in her first academic semester at that fine institution of higher learning.

2.  I bevel guilted during the football season after reading a ridiculously funny piece that made me fully realize how much I love this site.  I also realized I hadn't bevel guilted in a few years.  So I'll make it an annual contribution.   I also buy MGoMerch, so my support is hopefully felt in many ways.
