WR Dominoes Falling: Looking Good for 4 Star WR Xavier Worthy

Submitted by Caesar on July 4th, 2020 at 8:38 PM

WR Xavier Worthy (247 Profile) is a Michigan WR target. Oregon was also a huge player in his recruitment. However, Oregon picked up 4 star WR Isaiah Brevard (info), so Oregon appears to be full up. That means things look pretty good for Michigan, in addition to the flood of CBs for the good guys.

In that linked thread on Brevard, an Oregon fan said (link) that Xavier's mum is a big fan of Michigan and at least wanted Xavier to visit before committing. However, Oregon didn't want to wait for the visits.

Side note: Cristobal, Oregon's HC, is tearing it up in recruiting. Their WR crew is especially impressive and is headlined by a 5 star guy.

Edwards and Worthy would give us breakaway speed at offensive skill positions that we haven't seen in a generation?

Both are legit game breakers at their positions.  Since Denard, I can't think of a player that was an absolute home run threat.

I still think the QB position and DT are where playoff teams are created and championships are won - that's how Clemson has been so successful - but it would be something fun to watch Worthy and Edwards on the field together, especially if McCaffrey can ball out.

Oregon isn't gonna accomplish a lot.

Their coach can recruit, but won't win anything big.

Bet. Gonna get a lot of good recruits only to finish second.

I'm sorry but it's just my opinion.

PAC-12 Champs and a Rose Bowl trophy seems like a hell of a season.

I would take those results over what we’re getting, any day.

Utah was 11-1 heading into the PAC-12 title game before they decided to lay an egg the last two games of the year.

Conference strength isn’t mention, just that Oregon won’t win anything. When I’m fact, Oregon had a hell of a year. The same Wisky team that destroyed us earlier in the year was defeated by that Oregon team.

I’m still wait and see in regards to Ed O. I’m not going to ignore his entire coaching career based on one year where he had Joe Burrow breaking records and a stud OC that just bolted to the NFL.

LSU has a lot of talent and Ed O is a good recruiter. But I’m not sure this past season was really a sign of things to come. I still feel he’s probably peaking as a 9-10 win team and was fortunate with his QB/OC breaking records this year.

And he hired crappy offensive coaches, which compounded that total lack of knowledge. It's possible for an incompetent coach to do really well with the right coordinators. Gene Chizik won a national championship when Gus Malzahn was his OC, then got fired two years later.

I am really interested to see how LSU looks this year.  They likely won't have that explosive of an offense but they recruit like gangbusters so they'll have talent.  But if you told me they went the way of Auburn after Newton left (8-5-ish) I wouldn't be shocked.

And +1 for you sir. I think they are doing a good job of capitalizing on the recruiting trail, of course LSU will always get their fair share of dudes, but I think Coach O really shows his value over the next couple seasons, in the recruiting wake of the NC team and loss of his staff etc

Oh man. This kid can fly. His film reminded me of Anthony Carter for whatever reason.  This will be a GREAT pickup if we get him.

No but Michigan is also looking good on the DT front of recruiting. We lead currently for George Rooks who will be visiting this week unofficially. Wouldn’t be surprised if he commits because he reportedly hates the recruiting process and wants to get it over with. We are also sitting well with Oak Park DT/OT Rayshaun Benny. His mom reportedly favors Michigan and Benny just wants to help his family.

Also, while the very fastest 40yd guys might not be the very fastest 100m guys and vice versa...the correlation between being elite at one and elite at the other is *extremely* tight. Like, if you look at 60m leaderboards and 100m leaderboards, you basically see a single set of names (Bolt's an exception, though if he ran the 60 in his prime, he still would have been at or near the top of leaderboards).

If we can finally grab a guy who is capable of outrunning the OSU DBs, and not simply have to experience the other way around, I’d be perfectly fine with that.

All I saw was elite speed on his profile, and that was enough for me.

Would be a nice pickup for UM and help allay concerns about the offense being less dynamic in the future.  I do wonder if a couple more big names will start dropping as we get closer to the fall and schools and states are still trying to figure out how they'll do sports in the fall, if at all.  Could see some guys just want to get a landing spot.

Yep.  Not to get greedy, but if we pull Worthy, Edwards, Rooks, and Benny this is a really good class with the only hole being boundary cornerback?

McBurrows looks like a specific pick-up built to cover slots and drag routes- something we sorely need.  Looks like Prophet Brown is headed to Oklahoma.
