Worst refs ever

Submitted by MH20 on
*clap clap clapclapclap* Seriously, the refs at the tO$U game were absolutely AWFUL. Michigan players were getting mauled in the second half and got NO calls, meanwhile tO$U was getting a foul called every 5 seconds. Maybe I am the only one, but it seems to me that the Big Ten/CCHA have some of the worst officials in all of college sports. They consistently blow call after call, including the replay guy in football. It's pathetic. "Ref you suck!!"

I've been complaining about that to my friends recently as well. I have to imagine that it's not just Big Ten/CCHA refs, but all refs, and that we just notice it more with the Big Ten refs because we watch more Big Ten games. Someone more motivated than me should go through some games and compare blown calls between conferences. That'd take a lot of work though.

that you could put both of your hands (hill from OSU) on a player from michigan as he dribbled the ball up the floor. last time i checked they took hand checking out of basketball about 12 years ago. i thought johnny b was going to get a tech for the way he was going off on the refs.

While I came on here to bitch about all the calls Michigan got screwed on, we did get some ticky-tack calls our way in the first half, but we got royally screwed in the second half. And yeah, we've had some total BS calls go our way (MSU football game most notably), which is the underlying reason I say that the B10 is just awful across the board. Bad calls made all over the place, some really screwing Michigan, some helping us, both terrible all around.

...no doubt in my mind...didn't like it when he ref Michigan games. Might be some residue left, within me, from the Fab Five era inwhich he was constantly thrusting himself into the game as a sixth man, favoring the opposition with some his calls. I have a neighbor who ref SEC and ACC games. I'm gonna have to get him to tell me about Hightower one of these days...

My dad reffed games for a long time (mainly local rec leagues and high school, just did it for some extra money on the side and some exercise) and knew some refs that did Big Ten games back in the day. According to my dad, they thought Hightower was a blowhard with an overly high opinion of himself and his importance to the game. It kinda shines through in how he refs, he tends to inject himself into the game more than he should.

be worse to me than that official that called Bill Laimbeer for a foul when he wasn't within a foot of the player he was guarding and cost the Pistons a championship in '88.

Oohi State must have a lousy econ program (surprise surprise), because they kept dribbling in the second half. After repeatedly not getting called for traveling, they obviously could have just stopped dribbling and incurred the benefits of doing so while not reaping the costs...

Am I the only one who dislikes having some jabroni up in the press box be the one who decides replay challenges? I mean, the official on the field is the one in charge of the game, so why doesn't he be the one to look at instant replay, like in the NFL? Sometimes I feel like there'd be fewer mistakes if the guy on the field is looking at replay and making the call, not some guy in the box. And if he gets it wrong, then it's on the official's head, where it should be.

To be fair the worst call of the game was probably Hill's "goaltending" block on Grady. As long as the bigger Big Ten teams take a physical approach to defending Michigan, and seeing as we really don't have the bodies inside to handle that this year they certainly will, we'd better get used to seeing our guys get pushed around inside.
